TL;DR: A novel switched-capacitor inverter, which does not need any inductors, can be smaller than a conventional two-stage unit which consists of a boost converter and an inverter bridge and its output harmonics are reduced compared to a conventional voltage source single phase full bridge inverter.
Abstract: A novel switched-capacitor inverter is proposed. The proposed inverter outputs larger voltage than the input voltage by switching the capacitors in series and in parallel. The maximum output voltage is determined by the number of the capacitors. The proposed inverter, which does not need any inductors, can be smaller than a conventional two-stage unit which consists of a boost converter and an inverter bridge. Its output harmonics are reduced compared to a conventional voltage source single phase full bridge inverter. In this paper, the circuit configuration, the theoretical operation, the simulation results with MATLAB/SIMULINK, and the experimental results are shown. The experimental results accorded with the theoretical calculation and the simulation results.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the radiation power factor of a small antenna in terms of its effective volume, which is proportional to the effective volume of the antenna's antenna array.
Abstract: A small antenna is one whose size is a small fraction of the wavelength. It is a capacitor or inductor, and it is tuned to resonance by a reactor of opposite kind. Its bandwidth of impedance matching is subject to a fundamental limitation measured by its "radiation power factor" which is proportional to its "effective volume". These principles are reviewed in the light of a quarter-century of experience. They are related to various practical configurations, including flush radiators for mounting on aircraft. Among the examples, one extreme is a small one-turn loop of wide strip, tuned by an integral capacitor. The opposite extreme is the largest antenna in the world, which is a "small antenna" in terms of its operating wavelength. In each of these extremes, the radiation power factor is much less than one percent.

TL;DR: This paper analyzes the design of the passive components and gives a practical and low-cost solution for the minimization of the circulation currents between the inverters, by using common-mode coils.
Abstract: In this paper, an interleaved active-power-filter concept with reduced size of passive components is discussed. The topology is composed of two pulsewidth-modulation interleaved voltage-source inverters connected together on the ac line and sharing the same dc-link capacitor. The advantages of the proposed approach are as follows: 1. significant reduction in the linkage inductors' size by decreasing the line-current ripple due to the interleaving; 2. reduction of the switching stress in the dc-link capacitor, due to the shared connection; and 3. more accurate compensation for high-power applications, because the power sharing allows one to use a higher switching frequency in each inverter. This paper analyzes the design of the passive components and gives a practical and low-cost solution for the minimization of the circulation currents between the inverters, by using common-mode coils. Several simulation results are discussed, and experimental results with a three-phase 10-kVA 400-V unit are obtained to validate the theoretical analysis.

TL;DR: An inductive power pad (100) includes a plurality of transmitting inductors (120) and a respective plurality of detector circuits (140), each transmitting inductor is operable to provide inductive energy to a power receiver circuit (150) as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: An inductive power pad (100) includes a plurality of transmitting inductors (120) and a respective plurality of detector circuits (140). Each transmitting inductor (120) is operable to provide inductive energy to a power receiver circuit (150). Each detector circuit (140) corresponds to one of the plurality of transmitting inductors (120) and each detector circuit (140) is operable to electromagnetically sense a power receiver circuit (150) in proximity thereto. Each detector circuit upon electromagnetically sensing a power receiver circuit, is further operable to control switching of its corresponding transmitting inductor to a power supply (130), thereby providing a supply voltage to said corresponding transmitting inductor, said supply voltage operable to generating inductive energy (110) for transmission to said power receiver circuit.

TL;DR: The concept of “commutation inductance(s)” is shown to be an essential element in achieving full-operating-range ZVS, taking into account the amount of charge that is required to charge the nonlinear parasitic output capacitances of the switches during commutation.
Abstract: A comprehensive procedure for the derivation of optimal, full-operating-range zero voltage switching (ZVS) modulation schemes for single-phase, single-stage, bidirectional and isolated dual active bridge (DAB) ac-dc converters is presented. The converter topology consists of a DAB dc-dc converter, receiving a rectified ac line voltage via a synchronous rectifier. The DAB comprises primary and secondary side full bridges, linked by a high-frequency isolation transformer and a series inductor. ZVS modulation schemes previously proposed in the literature are either based on current-based or energy-based ZVS analyses. The procedure outlined in this paper for the calculation of optimal DAB modulation schemes (i.e., combined phase-shift, duty-cycle, and switching frequency modulation) relies on a novel, more accurate, current-dependent charge-based ZVS analysis, taking into account the amount of charge that is required to charge the nonlinear parasitic output capacitances of the switches during commutation. Thereby, the concept of “commutation inductance(s)” is shown to be an essential element in achieving full-operating-range ZVS. The proposed methods are applied to a 3.7 kW, bidirectional, and unity power factor electric vehicle battery charger which interfaces a 400 V dc-bus with the 230 Vac, 50-Hz utility grid. Experimental results obtained from a high-power-density, high-efficiency converter prototype are given to validate the theoretical analysis and practical feasibility of the proposed strategy.
