TL;DR: In this article, a fly capacitor method was proposed to reduce the output ripple and spike in single-induction dual-output (SIDO) switching converters, and an adaptive commonmode control was presented to suppress the cross-regulation problem.
Abstract: Single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) switching converters always suffer from large ripple and severe cross-regulation problem, when a large inductor current is switched between two outputs. This paper proposes a novel fly capacitor method for SIDO converters to reduce the output ripple and spike. An adaptive common-mode control is presented to suppress the cross-regulation problem. A duty-ratio-based current estimation method is proposed to detect the load current, and the converter can automatically switch between pulsewidth modulation and pulse-frequency modulation modes. The two outputs of the converter are specified for 1.2 V/400 mA and 1.8 V/200 mA with input voltage ranging from 2.7 to 5 V. The chip has been fabricated on a 0.25-? m CMOS mixed-signal process. The conversion efficiency is 82% at a total output power of 840 mW, while the output ripple is about 20 mV and spike is less than 40 mV. The maximum overshot voltage during load response is 50 mV.

TL;DR: In this article, a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) array in an alternating magnetic field is investigated with respect to its effective magnetic permeability, within the effective medium approximation.
Abstract: A rf superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) array in an alternating magnetic field is investigated with respect to its effective magnetic permeability, within the effective medium approximation. This system acts as an inherently nonlinear magnetic metamaterial, leading to negative magnetic response, and thus negative permeability above the resonance frequency of the individual SQUIDs. Moreover, the permeability exhibits oscillatory behavior at low field intensities, allowing its tuning by a slight change of the intensity of the applied field.

TL;DR: In this article, a magnetic field sensor with a coil and a diode is employed for determining the presence of magnetic fields in a medical implant, where the coil is charged by a source of voltage for a defined period of time, the time for the discharge of the coil through the diode depending on whether a magnetic magnetic field is present.
Abstract: In a magnetic field detector as well as in a combined telemetry and magnetic field detector unit in a medical implant, a magnetic field sensor with a coil and a diode are employed for determining the presence of a magnetic field. For making such a determination, the coil is charged by a source of voltage for a defined period of time, the time for the discharge of the coil through the diode depending on whether a magnetic field is present. A detection signal indicating the presence of a magnetic field is generated if the discharge time is less than a defined time threshold value.

TL;DR: A new control method for electronic ballasts based on the use of a variable inductor that presents additional advantages when compared to other control methods, such as inherent isolated control, more linear control characteristics, constant electrode power, and higher efficiency.
Abstract: In this paper, a new control method for electronic ballasts based on the use of a variable inductor is presented. The main goal is to perform the complete control of the electronic ballast by maintaining the switching frequency constant and without using other parameters of the power converter, such as input voltage or duty cycle. The magnetic regulator is controlled by means of a dc current, which allows performing both lamp soft starting and lamp dimming. Apart from the important advantage of keeping a constant frequency during full electronic ballast operation, the proposed method presents additional advantages when compared to other control methods, such as inherent isolated control, more linear control characteristics, constant electrode power, and higher efficiency. Experimental results from a 36-W linear fluorescent lamp prototype are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a novel compensation topology composed of one compensation inductor and three compensation capacitors, named as S/CLC, which provides the advantages of constant voltage output and easy achievement of zero phase angle and zero voltage switching.
Abstract: Wireless power transfer (WPT) has drawn a lot of attention due to its inherent advantages and great potential in various applications. This paper proposes a novel compensation topology composed of one compensation inductor and three compensation capacitors. The newly proposed compensation topology, named as S/CLC, provides the advantages of constant voltage output and easy achievement of zero phase angle and zero voltage switching. It is also free from the constraints imposed by the loosely coupled transformer (LCT) parameters. All the above-mentioned merits are theoretically analyzed and verified by simulation and experiment. Compared to double-sided LCC compensation topology, S/CLC compensation topology needs less compensation components, meaning lower cost, smaller size, higher power density, and greater potential in practical applications. The optimization of a circular pad is conducted as well since the properties of the LCT have a significant impact on the performance of a WPT system. A circular pad is manufactured in terms of the conclusions obtained from the optimization. The coupling coefficient Circular pad design, constant voltage output (CVO), wireless power transfer (WPT), zero phase angle (ZPA), zero voltage switching (ZVS).of the circular pad is quite appealing, demonstrating the validity of the optimization.
