TL;DR: In this article, a two-edge modulation (TEM) was proposed to reduce the root-mean-square (RMS) value of the inductor current to reduce conduction loss.
Abstract: Four-switch buck-boost (FSBB) converter features low-voltage stress across the power switches and positive output voltage. They have two active power switches and two synchronous rectifiers, so two freedoms, i.e., the duty cycles of the two active switches, are available to regulate the output voltage. This paper proposes a two-edge modulation (TEM), in which the two active switches are trailing-edge and leading-edge modulated, respectively. Thus, the inductor current ripple can be reduced. Furthermore, a 3-mode TEM is derived to reduce the root-mean-square value of the inductor current to reduce the conduction loss. The line range is divided into three regions, and FSBB operates at boost, buck-boost, and buck modes in the lower, medium, and higher input voltage regions, respectively. At buck and boost modes, only two switches are high-frequency switched, so that the total switching loss is reduced. In the buck-boost mode, the inductor current ripple is very low compared with other two modes. Hence, the switching frequency is lowered to reduce the switching loss. The 3-mode TEM can achieve high efficiency over the line range, which is verified by a 48-V (36-75 V) input, 48-V @ 6.25-A output prototype. The measured efficiency is higher than 96.5% over the line range and the efficiency at the nominal input voltage is 97.8%.

TL;DR: In this article, strip-line inductors integrated with Ni80Fe20 were fabricated, electrically characterized, and compared to models, and electrical characterization included frequency dependent measurements of effective self and mutual inductance, effective resistance, coupling coefficient, and saturation effects.
Abstract: On-chip strip-line coupled inductors integrated with magnetic material are a promising technology option to enable on-chip voltage regulators for improving power management in microelectronics. We report on design methodologies where several examples of parameter tradeoffs are presented. When considered with practical integration constraints, these result in an optimized structure. Strip-line inductors integrated with Ni80Fe20 were then fabricated, electrically characterized, and compared to models. Electrical characterization included frequency dependent measurements of effective self and mutual inductance, effective resistance, coupling coefficient, and saturation effects.

TL;DR: In this article, a coreless printed circuit board (PCB)-based transformer with "multiple" secondary outputs has been successfully applied in complementary gate drive circuits in a novel low-profile power converter with high power density and a converter bridge.
Abstract: This paper describes the modeling and implementation of a coreless printed circuit board (PCB)-based transformer with "multiple" secondary outputs. This new PCB transformer has been successfully applied in complementary gate drive circuits in a novel low-profile power converter with high-power density and a converter bridge. The PCB-based transformers do not require the manual winding procedure and thus simplify the manufacturing process of transformer-isolated gate drive circuits. The use of the multiple secondary outputs can in principle simplify the complementary gate drive circuits that are often required in many power electronics applications.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the analysis, design, and control of a four-wire rectifier system using split-capacitor topology, which does not require any complex transformation or input voltage sensing.
Abstract: This paper presents the analysis, design, and control of a four-wire rectifier system using split-capacitor topology The proposed controller does not require any complex transformation or input voltage sensing A detailed analysis of the distortions in the line and the neutral currents is presented It is shown that the single-carrier-based, conventional sine-triangle PWM (CSPWM) scheme results in a peak-to-peak neutral current ripple, which is greater than the peak-to-peak ripple of any of the line currents Also, for the same operating condition, the distortions in the line and the neutral currents increase considerably, when a three-limb boost inductor is used instead of three single-phase inductors A three-carrier-based SPWM scheme is proposed in this paper Compared to CSPWM, the proposed scheme significantly reduces the neutral current ripple when three single-phase inductors are used, and reduces both line and neutral current ripples when a three-limb inductor is used The control scheme is verified through Matlab simulation It is implemented on an field-programmable gate-array (FPGA)-based digital controller and tested on a prototype Simulation and experimental results are presented

TL;DR: In this article, a new ESD protection methodology for high-frequency CMOS LNAs is introduced, where an on-chip inductor is employed to drain off the hazardous ESD charge while tuning out the harmful parasitic input capacitance.
Abstract: A new ESD protection methodology for high-frequency CMOS LNAs is introduced. An on-chip inductor is employed to drain off the hazardous ESD charge while tuning out the harmful parasitic input capacitance. A 5.2 GHz LNA has been designed, attaining high RF performance while providing a high level of ESD protection.
