TL;DR: In this article, a filtered feedthrough including a ferrule surrounding an insulator supporting one or more lead wires and at least one ground pin is described, where the ground pins are in electrical communication with the ferrule by way of a ground pin braze joint formed in the channel cutout, and an attached filter capacitor shunts electromagnetic interference from the lead wire to the ground pin.
Abstract: A filtered feedthrough including a ferrule surrounding an insulator supporting one or more lead wires and at least one ground pin is described. The insulator defines a channel cutout extending from a first insulator side to a channel cutout bottom part way through the thickness of the insulator and in communication with the ferrule. An attached filter capacitor shunts electromagnetic interference from the lead wire to the ground pin, and the ground pin is in electrical communication with the ferrule by way of a ferrule-ground pin braze joint formed in the channel cutout.

Abstract: A method is described for optimizing the field stress on HV insulators by modifying their profile, seeking a uniform distribution of the tangential field among the insulator surface. This results in an increase of the onset voltage for surface flashover and in a significant saving of the space of the HV installation. The optimization process was achieved by an algorithm developed for calculating the tangential field Component and mathematical expressions of the profile to be corrected through an iterative procedure. The algorithm was based on a modified charge-simulation technique to satisfy a better matching of the boundary conditions to the electrode and insulator surfaces involved in the HV installation. The algorithm is expanded to study the effect of contamination on the tangential field distribution. It is found that the higher the conductivity of the contamination layer, the higher is the field uniformity along the insulator surface.

TL;DR: In this paper, the location and the dimensions of the corona ring for transmission line composite insulators using finite element based software, FEMLAB, were optimized using the maximum field along the insulator surface.
Abstract: The paper presents a method to optimize the location and the dimensions of the corona ring for transmission line composite insulators using finite element based software, FEMLAB. The procedure used to optimize the corona ring design, which handles more than one parameter, has been verified with examples that have an analytical solution or known optimal values. In this work the optimization is based on finding the maximum field along the insulator surface, such that this maximum field is well below the corona inception level. The design parameters of the ring diameter, diameter of the ring tube, position of the ring in its vertical plane, and the maximum field that cannot exceed the corona inception level have been used in the optimization process.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the dc pollution flashover performance of various types of porcelain, glass, and composite insulators and presented analysis of the dc flashover process of polluted insulator string at high altitude using insight from high-speed photography.
Abstract: In this paper, the dc pollution flashover performance of various types of porcelain, glass, and composite insulators is investigated. It also presents analysis of the dc flashover process of polluted insulator string at high altitude using insight from high-speed photography. The research results indicate that the relationship between the dc pollution flashover voltage and the string length of insulators is basically linear, the characteristic exponents describing the influence degree of air pressure on pollution flashover voltage vary between 0.35 and 0.77 and are related to the insulator types and pollution degree, etc., the characteristic exponents describing the influence degree of pollution on flashover voltage vary between 0.24 and 0.36 and are related to the insulator types and air pressure, etc. Based on the flashover phenomena using the insight from high-speed photography, a new physical model explaining the flashover mechanism for a polluted insulator string at high altitude is introduced, which can be expressed as an electrical circuit consisting of a surface arc of length x1 and air-gap arc of length x2 in series with a resistance representing the wet pollution layer. In addition, the exponent n describing the influence degree of air pressure on flashover voltage for the polluted insulator is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, an ink-jet unit is connected with a personal computer and an insulator is placed on a carrier which can carry the insulator in the direction of travel by a jet of ink from a nozzle on the basis of pictorial information data transmitted by the computer.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable manufacturing with cost reduction, without need for long time using a simple manufacturing method, by simultaneously forming a conductor pattern on the surface of an insulator. SOLUTION: An ink-jet unit 7 connected with a personal computer 10 has an ink-jet nozzle 8 which can be slid sideways and longitudinally, and an insulator 9 is placed on a carrier which can carry the insulator 9 in the direction of travel, and both of a conductor pattern and an insulating pattern are formed simultaneously on the surface of the insulator 9 by a jet of ink from a nozzle on the basis of pictorial information data transmitted by the personal computer. When ink to be used is solvent type or heat curing type, the insulator 9 is carried through a heating furnace subsequent to the ink-jet unit 7 for drying solvent or cure binder. This allows manufacturing time to be shorten by simple equipment and method.
