TL;DR: In this article, a power management architecture for an electrical power distribution system, or portion thereof, is disclosed, which includes multiple IEDs distributed throughout the power distribution systems to manage the flow and consumption of power from the system.
Abstract: A power management architecture for an electrical power distribution system, or portion thereof, is disclosed. The architecture includes multiple intelligent electronic devices (“IED's”) distributed throughout the power distribution system to manage the flow and consumption of power from the system. The IED's are linked via a network to back-end servers. Security mechanisms are further provided which protect and otherwise ensure the authenticity of communications transmitted via the network in furtherance of the management of the distribution and consumption of electrical power by the architecture. In particular, public key cryptography is employed to identify components of the architecture and provide for secure communication of power management data among those components. Further, certificates and certificate authorities are utilized to further ensure integrity of the security mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, a power management architecture for an electrical power distribution system, or portion thereof, is disclosed, which includes intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) with the capability to monitor and control attached slave devices, and provide capability to communicate between multiple devices in a variety of communication protocols.
Abstract: A power management architecture for an electrical power distribution system, or portion thereof, is disclosed. The architecture includes intelligent electronic devices (“IED's”) with the capability to monitor and control attached slave devices, and provide capability to communicate between multiple devices in a variety of communication protocols. A master IED in the master/slave architecture performs power management functions on the data received from the slave IED's. Further, the IED's with master functionality provide web server capabilities, allowing a user to view processed data over an open Internet protocol, such as HTTP (“Hyper Text Transfer Protocol”).

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for filtering electric power system data communicated from faulted circuit indicators (FCIs) and at least one other source before the electric power systems data is further communicated to a monitoring system such as SCADA is presented.
Abstract: A system and method for filtering electric power system data communicated from faulted circuit indicators (FCIs) and at least one other source before the electric power system data is further communicated to a monitoring system such as SCADA The power system data from the FCIs may include an event such as a fault on the electric power system To avoid sending incorrect or excess information along to the monitoring system, the present disclosure describes a system and method for comparing data from the FCIs against electric power system data gathered either directly from the electric power system or from an intelligent electronic device (IED) If the two sets of data agree, then the information is passed on to the monitoring system The FCIs may communicate to a transceiver interface periodically, upon detection of an event, and/or upon interrogation by the transceiver interface

TL;DR: In this paper, the front end voltage input channels are split and distributed into separate circuits for transient detection, waveform capture analysis and revenue measurement, respectively, for an IED.
Abstract: An intelligent electronic device (IED) has enhanced power quality and communications capabilities. The power meter can perform energy analysis by waveform capture, detect transient on the front end voltage input channels and provide revenue measurements. The power meter splits and distributes the front end input channels into separate circuits for scaling and processing by dedicated processors for specific applications by the power meter. Front end voltage input channels are split and distributed into separate circuits for transient detection, waveform capture analysis and revenue measurement, respectively. Front end current channels are split and distributed into separate circuits for waveform capture analysis and revenue measurement, respectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for retrieving revenue metering data from at least one IED, e.g., a revenue meter, is presented, in response to supplying a pairing passkey to the IED.
Abstract: An intelligent electronic device (IED), e.g., an electrical power meter, having wireless communication capabilities, e.g., Bluetooth connectivity, for transmitting and receiving data without a hardwire connection is provided. A system and method for retrieving revenue metering data from at least one IED, e.g., a revenue meter, are also provided. The system includes at least one intelligent electronic device including a transceiver configured for receiving calculated energy consumption data from a processor and transmitting the calculated energy consumption data via a spread-spectrum frequency hopping technique; and a data collection device configured for receiving the calculated energy consumption data from the at least one intelligent electronic device in response to supplying a pairing passkey to the intelligent electronic device.
