TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe how the National Society of French Railways has concerned itself with handicapped customers for a long time, and how it has taken the initiative with a number of timely actions that are aimed at improving: access to and circulation within the station; access to the trains; and the trip itself.
Abstract: This paper describes how the National Society of French Railways has concerned itself with handicapped customers for a long time. It has taken the initiative with a number of timely actions that are aimed at improving: (1) access to and circulation within the station; (2) access to the trains; and (3) the trip itself. The paper found that adapting a pre-existing mode of transport to the handicap at a modest cost would appear to be satisfactory, given some minor changes. It would appear to be realistic, given technical and financial constraints which weigh heavily on rail transport. These constraints apply as much to modifications to existing installations and rolling stock as to the planning of future installations and rolling stock.
