Abstract: The channel capacity required for long distance digital transmission of video signals can be substantially reduced through a system using interframe coding. This is possible because of the amount of frame-to-frame redundancy which exists in a video source output. Through appropriate signal processing it is feasible to send only the changed area of each frame rather than the full frame provided that the previous frame values are retained in memories.
