TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for performing fast channel switching in a wireless local area network (WLAN) by determining that the wireless medium has been idle during a PCF interframe space (PIFS) period, transmitting a first management frame during a slot time following the PIFS period, wherein the transmission at said slot time substantially guarantees priority access to said wireless medium; and performing fast switching in the network in accordance with directives contained within the management frame.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for performing fast channel switching in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The method generally includes the steps of: determining that the wireless medium has been idle during a PCF interframe space (PIFS) period, transmitting a first management frame during a slot time following the PIFS period; wherein the transmission at said slot time substantially guarantees priority access to said wireless medium; and performing fast channel switching in the network in accordance with directives contained within the management frame. Fast channel switching as defined herein includes one of quieting the current channel and/or switching from a current channel of operation to a new channel of operation. The method overcomes the latencies associated with contention based services, such as the DCF service. The method may further include the additional step of transmitting one or more additional management frames, whose format is identical to said first management frame, each additional frame preferably separated by the PIFS interframe space to provide a higher degree of transmission reliability. The method is preferably performed at an access point (AP) in an infrastructure network or in an STA in an ad-hoc network.

TL;DR: In this paper, a band compression signal processor is proposed for intra-frame-coding and inter-framecoding an input video signal which forms a picture areas, and a refresh coding circuit is formed by adding overhead data indicating the contents of variable length codes of a refresh block and a non-refresh block to the refresh block.
Abstract: A band compression signal processor including a band compression circuit for intra-frame-coding and inter-frame-coding an input video signal which forms a picture areas, inter-frame-coding the input video signal which is intra-frame-coded, and repeating the above signal processing adaptively according to a motion evaluation on the input video signal, and a refresh coding circuit for periodically intra-frame-coding signals corresponding to b areas of the a areas for each frame at a period of f frames. A macro-block is formed by adding overhead data indicating the contents of variable length codes of a refresh block and a non-refresh block to the refresh block which has undergone the refresh coding and the non-refresh block which has not undergone the refresh coding.

TL;DR: By pre-encoding a down-sampled small image, the candidate inter block modes can be reduced to a small subset by the proposed fast inter prediction mode decision method for H.264.
Abstract: This paper proposes a fast inter prediction mode decision method for H.264. By pre-encoding a down-sampled small image, the candidate inter block modes can be reduced to a small subset. The experimental result shows that our algorithm can reduce nearly 50% of encoding time with PSNR decrease less than 0.2dB

TL;DR: A key frame extraction technology based on optimized frame difference is proposed, which measures the similarity of two adjacent frames' contents in terms of the information of frame difference, and extracts key frames after optimizing the frame difference.
Abstract: Key frame extraction is a basic technology of online video retrieval and abstract establishing. Efficient key frame extraction technology can promote the development of widely-used video browsing technology. In this paper, we first reviewed some commonly-used key frame extraction technology, and then proposed a key frame extraction technology based on optimized frame difference, which measures the similarity of two adjacent frames' contents in terms of the information of frame difference, and extracts key frames after optimizing the frame difference. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can extract key information of online video efficiently, and has a good description in the aspect of changes in the movement of the lens.

TL;DR: In this paper, a temporary frame of deinterlaced video is constructed by replacing the placeholder pixels in the identified areas of motion with pixels interpolated using an edge direction interpolation scheme, resulting in a reconstructed frame.
Abstract: A method for deinterlacing video includes constructing a temporary frame of deinterlaced video based on a first (i.e., current) field of interlaced video, wherein the temporary frame includes pixels in lines of the temporary frame associated with the first field of interlaced video, placeholder pixels in identified areas of motion in lines of the frame associated with a missing field of interlaced video, and pixels from an opposite field of polarity of interlaced video in areas without motion. The method further includes replacing the placeholder pixels in the identified areas of motion with pixels interpolated using an edge direction interpolation scheme based on pixels in the first field of interlaced video, resulting in a reconstructed frame. In one example, a motion adaptive interpolator may construct the temporary frame, and an edge directional interpolator may generate the reconstructed/deinterlaced the frame.
