24 Dec 1992TL;DR: In this paper, the preferred station frame is stored in an internal small first-in-first-out (FIFO) buffer, and the hub resends the frame from the FIFO immediately after Inter Frame Spacing (IFS) while the receive station attempts to transmit later.
Abstract: A hub in a star local area network (LAN). A single station, called the preferred station, is dynamically selected to perform a transmission. When two or more stations attempt to transmit simultaneously, one currently preferred station goes through, while all others sense collisions. The currently preferred station is dynamically selected by performing a precedence algorithm which is a fairness and deterministic algorithm. If the station receiving from the preferred station also attempts to transmit, then it senses a collision and the hub lets it recover and enable itself for receiving before transmitting the frame. This is done by storing the preferred station frame in an internal small first-in first-out (FIFO) buffer. The hub resends the frame from the FIFO immediately after Inter Frame Spacing (IFS) while the receive station attempts to transmit later. If after a number of attempts the hub does not succeed in transmitting the frame successfully, then the hub generates a collision frame.

TL;DR: This study gives objective and subjective quality assessment of decoded video frame by means of each search algorithm by giving a comparative study various search algorithms by Block Matching.
Abstract: The Block Matching is a temporal compression technique used in the video encoding. The main purpose of this method is to determine the displacements of each block of pixels between two successive frames. This technique, performed in the step of motion estimation, occupies the majority of the total time of video coding. The aim of this work is to give a comparative study various search algorithms by Block Matching. This study does not focus only on the complexity and computation time of each algorithm, but it also gives objective and subjective quality assessment of decoded video frame by means of each search algorithm.

14 Apr 2010TL;DR: In this article, a method of extracting a key frame from a sequence of frames constituting a shot, each frame being constituted by a matrix of pixels, comprises: computing (1) the optical flow of the frame compared to the following frame as a matrix, and (2) a motion entropy measure based on the optical flows of the frames.
Abstract: A method of extracting a key frame from a sequence of frames constituting a shot, each frame being constituted by a matrix of pixels, comprises: for each frame of the sequence of frames: computing (3) the optical flow of the frame compared to the following frame as a matrix of displacement of each pixel from the frame to the following frame; computing (5) a motion entropy measure based on the optical flow of the frame; selecting (7) as key frame the frame of the sequence of frames having the maximum motion entropy measure.

02 Jul 1996TL;DR: In this article, an Inter Frame Spacing (IFS) adaptation routine is proposed to alter the IFS parameter utilized by the network controller to regulate data throughput in real time according to the topology and load of its Ethernet network.
Abstract: An Inter Frame Spacing ("IFS") adaptation routine, operating in combination with a network controller (130), to alter the IFS parameter utilized by the network controller to regulate data throughput. Such alteration is performed in real time according to the topology and load of its Ethernet network (150). Upon determining that current Back-to-Back frames of data propagating through the Ethernet network are sensitive to IFS adaptation (step 115), the IFS adaptation routine configures the IFS parameter of its network controller based on its transmit activity and collision intensity (step 130).
