TL;DR: In this paper, a method for storing and reproducing video signals is described, the picture information of which is structured into video frames, and a known hybrid coder can be used which codes the video data coming from a video data source either in accordance with the intraframe principle or the interframe principle for reducing the bit rates.
Abstract: A method for storing and reproducing video signals is described, the picture information of which is structured into video frames. As a means for carrying out such a method, a known hybrid coder can be used which codes the video data coming from a video data source either in accordance with the intraframe principle or the interframe principle for reducing the bit rates. So that the hybrid decoder connected between memory and monitor does not need to run at a higher speed than normal during a fast check (fast forward or fast rewind) it is provided to code a prescribed section, which can be recognised again in isolation, of predetermined video frames in accordance with the so-called intraframe principle during the storage. During an accelerated check of the stored picture information, the prescribed sections are read out and only these are decoded and reproduced on the monitor.

TL;DR: A video format bridge employs a plurality of techniques to insure that the line buffer does not suffer underflow or overflow conditions, and that the output frame rate matches the input frame rate as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A video format bridge employs a plurality of techniques to insure that the line buffer does not suffer underflow or overflow conditions, and that the output frame rate matches the input frame rate. The bridge handles the problem of residue lines, addresses fluctuations in the input and output clock rates, and allows adjustment of the ratio of the input and output the number of lines per frame or number of pixels per line so that output device specifications are not exceeded. A single integrated circuit may provided which is adapted to perform a plurality of techniques, and includes resources by which the user is able to enable and disable such techniques as needed for the particular bridging operation being executed. Bridge logic produces an output video stream which has an output frame rate matching the input frame rate, and in which the output frame has at least one of a variable number of pixels per line within an output frame, and/or a variable number of lines per frame among output frames in a set of more than one output frames.

TL;DR: In this paper, the redundancy between a greater number of frames than in the prior art is utilized for lossless compression of full motion video by utilizing the redundancy in the redundancy measure.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for loss-less compression of full motion video by utilizing the redundancy between a greater number of frames than in the prior art. Each frame is analyzed for a characteristic of change and only the change information is stored throughout the sequence of frames. Knowledge of future frames is also utilized to store base information in a library for use with the future frames.

TL;DR: The authors use a motion adaptive variable-bit-rate (VBR) video codec and propose a motion classified model to represent the characteristics of various classes of motion activities to capture the motion of various video scenes and the codec structure by providing the statistics of VBR-coded video' traffic through a first-order composite autoregressive process with three motion classes.
Abstract: The authors use a motion adaptive variable-bit-rate (VBR) video codec and propose a motion classified model to represent the characteristics of various classes of motion activities. The codec switches between interframe, motion compensated, and intraframe coding corresponding to low, medium, and high motions and scene changes, respectively. The model captures the motion of various video scenes and the codec structure by providing the statistics of VBR-coded video' traffic through a first-order composite autoregressive process with three motion classes. The parameters of this model are derived from a VBR-coded sample video sequence such that the bit rate distribution and the autocorrelation in bit rates of two successive frames are matched. The validity and accuracy of the model are verified. Using this model, the characteristics of aggregated traffic sources are discussed. >

TL;DR: In this paper, a new line spectrum pair (LSP) vector quantization method was proposed which uses moving average (MA) interframe prediction of the parameters of the LSP vector.
Abstract: This paper proposes a new efficient line spectrum pair (LSP) vector quantization method which uses moving average (MA) interframe prediction of the parameters. This method has two advantages over auto-regressive prediction: the degradation of decoded parameters caused by bit errors affects only a few of the following frames, and codeword decoding can start at any frame. Using MA prediction, the final reconstructed LSP vector (quantized vector) of the current frame is represented as a linear combination of current and previous frame code vectors. In this paper we describe ways to achieve a more efficient LSP coder when each frame has four 10-ms subfraines. The spectral distance obtained by this method at 30 bits per 40 ms is better than that obtained using conventional multi-stage VQ without interframe correlation at 40 bits per 40 ms.
