TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for image coding based on a reference frame memory, a search memory for storing image data of a search frame, a motion detection means for reading image data from the reference frame and the search memory and calculating it to detect a motion vector, and a judgement means for generating a motionvector distribution from the motion vector detected by the motion detection mean on a search range of the search frame M fields or M frames (M is an integer of one or larger).
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for image coding. A reference frame memory for storing image data of a reference frame, a search memory for storing image data of a search frame, a motion detection means for reading image data from the reference frame memory and the search memory and calculating it to detect a motion vector, and a judgement means for generating a motion vector distribution from the motion vector detected by the motion detection means on a search range of the search frame M fields or M frame (M is an integer of one or larger) apart from the reference frame and deciding a search position between images N fields or N frames (N is an integer larger than M) part based on the motion vector distribution are provided, and the motion detection means performs motion detection at the search position decided by the judgement means. The search range can be thereby enlarged without increment of the search block transfer rate when an image is coded.

TL;DR: In this article, the interframe-coded video data are transmitted, and the video data of the entry point are transmitted intra-frame coded, in response to a request for fast forward or fast backward mode only.
Abstract: To reduce the data in a video-server (SER), a compression of the video data of a video film is performed by coding according to the interframe method (K1). In addition, the video data of predetermined individual video pictures are coded according to the intraframe method (K2), and are stored (MEMO) as entry points parallel to the corresponding interframe-coded video data. When the video film is transmitted, only the interframe-coded video data are transmitted. In response to a request for fast forward or fast backward mode only, the video data of the entry point are transmitted intraframe-coded, and all subsequent video pictures are transmitted interframe-coded.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for storing and exchanging intra prediction data in a video codec chip is proposed, which consists of the following steps: (1) an initialized space predicts 6 arrays of a needed referential pixel value: upY[16][M], upUV[2][P][M, leftY[15], leftUV[16], left UV[2] and left_upY and leftupUV[1] ; (2) the pixel value needed in prediction is extracted from the 6 arrays in step 1 correspondingly for carrying out the intra
Abstract: The invention discloses a method for storing and exchanging intra prediction data in a video codec chip The method consists of the following steps: (1) an initialized space predicts 6 arrays of a needed referential pixel value: upY[16][M], upUV[2][P][M], leftY[16], leftUV[2][P], left_upY and left_upUV[2]; (2) the pixel value needed in prediction is extracted from the 6 arrays in step (1) correspondingly for carrying out the intra prediction; (3) the pixel point value at the lowest right point of current block, the line pixel value of under boundary and the column pixel value of right boundary are used for replacing values of 3 arrays of the pixel values of corresponding points, lines and columns; (4) the array is renewed when an I macro-block is processed completely; and (5) all the pixel values of the processed I macro-block are written into the corresponding positions of a frame storage outside the chip The method provided by the invention not only saves the storage space in the chip, but also optimizes the interaction with data outside the chip

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to efficiently encode a picture to an inter-frame code in accordance with the motion of the picture by generating an expanded/reduced picture of the decoded picture of a past frame in according with a detected expansion/reduction rate and encoding the differential picture between this forecast picture and the present encoding object picture.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently encode a picture to an inter-frame code in accordance with the motion of the picture by generating an expanded/reduced picture of the decoded picture of the past frame in accordance with a detected expansion/ reduction rate and using this expanded/reduced picture as the forecast picture of a present encoding object picture and encoding the differential picture between this forecast picture and the present encoding object picture. CONSTITUTION: When the present encoding object frame is not refreshed between this frame and a second or following frame in a moving picture sequence or the just preceding frame, a changeover switch 11 is indicated to use motion compensation for encoding of the present frame or use compensation dependent on expansion/reduction in course of zooming, and the decoded picture of the preceding frame stored in a frame memory 8 and the inputted present frame are used to perform motion compensation in a motion compensation operating part 9 or compensation dependent on expansion/reduction in expansion/reduction compensation operating part 10. The interframe difference picture between the present encoding object frame and the reference picture stored in the frame memory 8 is obtained by a difference operating part 1 and is converted and encoded by an encoding part 2. TL;DR: It is proved that Diamond Search (DS) algorithm is the best matching motion estimation algorithm that achieve best tradeoff between search speed (number of computations) and reconstructed picture quality with extensive simulation results and comparative analysis.
Abstract: In Digital video communication it is not practical, to store the full digital video without processing, because of the problems encountered in storage and transmission, so the processing technique called video compression is essential. In video compression, one of the computationally expensive and resource hungry key element is the Motion Estimation. The Motion estimation is a process which determines the motion between two or more frames of video. In this paper, Four block matching motion estimation algorithms, namely Exhaustive Search (ES), Three Step Search (TSS), New Three Step Search (NTSS), and Diamond Search (DS) algorithms are compared and implemented for different distances between the frames of the video by exploiting the temporal correlation between successive frames of mristack and foreman slow motion videos and proved that Diamond Search (DS) algorithm is the best matching motion estimation algorithm that achieve best tradeoff between search speed (number of computations) and reconstructed picture quality with extensive simulation results and comparative analysis.
