TL;DR: For instance, this paper found that international students are not actively engaged as cultural resources although they would like to do more to help others learn about their countries and cultures, and that the level of desired engagement as a cultural resource was the highest among South and Central American students, and the lowest among European students.
Abstract: This study used a cross-sectional survey to examine the perceptions of undergraduate and graduate international students enrolled at a public university in the Midwest, regarding international students’ perspectives on how their university engages them as cultural resources, and how such engagement might impact students’ perceptions of the value they receive from U.S. higher education. The data suggest that international students are not actively engaged as cultural resources although they would like to do more to help others learn about their countries and cultures. The level of desired engagement as a cultural resource was the highest among South and Central American students, and the lowest among European students. The study identifies multiple areas of opportunities for higher education to facilitate international students’ active contributions to the university’s strategic goal of global engagement and internationalization while also positively impacting the manner in which international students per...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors develop a theoretical model to describe and explain variation in corporate governance among advanced capitalist economies and identify the social relations and institutional arrangements that shape: who controls corporations, what interests corporations serve, and the allocation of rights and responsibilities among corporate stakeholders.
Abstract: Corporate governance lies at the heart of contemporary debates over internationalization and varieties of capitalism Despite this growing attention to cross-national diversity, a unified comparative framework remains elusive This article develops a theoretical model to describe and explain variation in corporate governance among advanced capitalist economies It identities the social relations and institutional arrangements that shape: (1) who controls corporations, (2) what interests corporations serve, and (3) the allocation of rights and responsibilities among corporate stakeholders Our "actor-centered" institutional approach explains firm-level corporate governance practices in terms of institutional factors that shape how actors' interests are defined ("socially constructed") and represented Specifically, we predict how different national institutional domains will influence the respective dimensions of three key stakeholders (capital, labor and management) in the corporate governance equation Our model has strong implications for studying issues of international convergence by exploring the institutional interdependencies, complementarities and tensions within national settings

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reveal that VCs can serve as a catalyst to new venture internationalization through the provision of knowledge and reputation resources, and that the international knowledge of a VC is more positively related to new-venture internationalization when the VC is also reputable.
Abstract: Venture Capitalists (VC) play an important role in influencing the strategic direction of the firms in which they invest. The findings of this study reveal that VCs can serve as a catalyst to new venture internationalization through the provision of knowledge and reputation resources. Furthermore, the international knowledge of a VC is more positively related to new venture internationalization when the VC is also reputable.
