TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify three research gaps: few studies treat speed as an independent variable; most studies analyze speed only until internationalization starts; and, finally, studies have paid little attention to the multidimensionality of the speed concept.
Abstract: This paper studies the performance consequences of the speed of SME internationalization The authors identify three research gaps: few studies treat speed as an independent variable; most studies analyze speed only until internationalization starts; and, finally, studies have paid little attention to the multidimensionality of the speed concept The authors seek to address these gaps and to contribute to the literature on the dynamics of internationalization by developing three measures of internationalization speed, which capture its multidimensionality Building on the theories of learning advantage of newness and time compression diseconomies, the study presents three hypotheses on speed’s effect on performance, and the theoretically derived research model is tested on a sample of 183 SMEs visited on site The analysis demonstrates that the speed of a firm’s increase in the breadth of its international markets has a positive but curvilinear effect on firm performance It also demonstrates that the speed of a firm’s increase in commitment of foreign resources has a negative but curvilinear effect on the performance of the firm These results have implications both for scholars interested in the dynamics of firm internationalization and for SME managers

TL;DR: This paper reviewed the character and consequences of the global economic crisis in these countries, focusing on how forms of geoeconomic and geopolitical integration undertaken during their post-socialist transitions have contributed to economic vulnerabilities exacerbated by the emerging crisis, and the consequences for East-Central Europe of adhering to a development model based on internationalization of the financial sector, cheap credit, and increasing reliance on exports to compensate for energy resource imports.
Abstract: Two UK-based geographers specializing in the economies of East-Central Europe and the former Soviet Union review the character and consequences of the global economic crisis in these countries, focusing on how forms of geo-economic and geopolitical integration undertaken during their post-socialist transitions have contributed to economic vulnerabilities exacerbated by the emerging crisis. Particular emphasis is placed on the consequences for East-Central Europe of adhering to a development model based on internationalization of the financial sector, cheap credit, and increasing reliance on exports to compensate for energy resource imports. The authors explore the likely distancing within the broader region of a group of new "insiders" (Euro-zone countries as well as the new EU member states) from an uneven landscape of "outsiders" (including Ukraine and other FSU states), as well as some of the recent tensions emerging between old and new EU member states.Journal of Economic Literature, Classification Nu...

TL;DR: In this article, a comparative case study of the internationalization of two contrasting universities: one in the UK, the other in Hong Kong is presented, which represents two distinct models of internationalization: the internationalist and the translocalist.
Abstract: Internationalization is a multifaceted concept, with many different interpretations, emphases and purposes. Its amorphous nature is captured in this comparative case study of the internationalization of two contrasting universities: one in the UK, the other in Hong Kong. The cases represent two distinct models of internationalization: the `internationalist' and the `translocalist'. A hypothetical third model, the globalist, is also suggested. The three models of internationalization capture different realities reflecting the importance of international, national and institutional contexts, as well as available opportunities and parameters of choice in decisions relating to internationalization.

TL;DR: In this article, a case study of a small export company from Croatia illustrates the process of internationalization to the U.S. market and provides useful information to the companies which are planning to enter new markets.
Abstract: Highly developed countries, which are similar to Croatia by size and population, highlight the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as holders of export activities and key factors in raising the competitiveness of the entire economy. In this paper authors research the concept of internationalization of SMEs. Analyzing the influence of decision makers on the process of internationalization and showing its advantages and disadvantages for the respective company and country, this research introduces the most common models on the basis of which this process is implemented in practice. A case study of a small export company from Croatia illustrates the process of internationalization to the U.S. market and provides useful information to the companies which are planning to enter new markets.
