TL;DR: The possibility of reliability increasing by means of redundancy is explained, and also the principle of optimal allocation of reliabilities to individual elements is explained.
Abstract: Many objects consist of more components. The mutual arrangement of the individual ele‐ ments influences the resultant reliability. The formulae are shown for the resultant relia‐ bility of series arrangement, as well as for parallel and combined arrangement. The possibility of reliability increasing by means of redundancy is explained, and also the principle of optimal allocation of reliabilities to individual elements. Everything is illus‐ trated on examples.

TL;DR: In this article, the reliability evaluations of single and multi-engined aircraft were made, based on accident rates per hours of flying time, and the reliability evaluation was performed in a technological context.
Abstract: After World War I the first reliability evaluations were performed in a technological context. Comparisons of single and multi-engined aircraft were then made, based on accident rates per hours of flying time.

TL;DR: Miller and Haller as discussed by the authors examined the characteristics of the Occupational Aspiration Scale (OAS) resulting from administrations of the instrument to eleventh grade boys and girls and concluded that the OAS is a valid measure of LOA.
Abstract: To meet the need for a practical, reliable, and valid measure of level of occupational aspiration (LOA), Haller (1957) has developed The Occupational Aspiration Scale (OAS). Although LOA has been recognized as a factor of some significance in the social mobility of youth (Empey, 19,56; Haller, 1959; Haller and Miller, 1963; Holloway and Berreman, 1959; Rosen, 1959; Sewell, Haller, and Straus, 1957), research has been restricted considerably by the lack of an instrument for measuring it. Evidence collected from several samples of male high school students suggests that the OAS is a valid measure of LOA (Miller and Haller, 1964). The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristics of the OAS resulting from administrations of the instrument to eleventh grade boys and girls.
