TL;DR: Reducing the thickness of oxide ceramic electrolytes is crucial to reduce the resistance of electrolytes and improve the energy density of Li-metal batteries.
Abstract: Ceramic oxide electrolytes are outstanding due to their excellent thermostability, wide electrochemical stable windows, superior Li-ion conductivity, and high elastic modulus compared to other electrolytes. To achieve high energy density, all-solid-state batteries require thin solid-state electrolytes that are dozens of micrometers thick due to the high density of ceramic electrolytes. Perovskite-type Li0.34 La0.56 TiO3 (LLTO) freestanding ceramic electrolyte film with a thickness of 25 µm is prepared by tape-casting. Compared to a thick electrolyte (>200 µm) obtained by cold-pressing, the total Li ionic conductivity of this LLTO film improves from 9.6 × 10-6 to 2.0 × 10-5 S cm-1 . In addition, the LLTO film with a thickness of 25 µm exhibits a flexural strength of 264 MPa. An all-solid-state Li-metal battery assembled with a 41 µm thick LLTO exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 145 mAh g-1 and a high capacity retention ratio of 86.2% after 50 cycles. Reducing the thickness of oxide ceramic electrolytes is crucial to reduce the resistance of electrolytes and improve the energy density of Li-metal batteries.

TL;DR: Li et al. as mentioned in this paper synthesized a halide Li+ superionic conductor, Li3 InCl6, that can be synthesized in water and showed a high ionic conductivity of 2.04×10-3 ǫS cm-1 at 25°C.
Abstract: To promote the development of solid-state batteries, polymer-, oxide-, and sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) have been extensively investigated. However, the disadvantages of these SSEs, such as high-temperature sintering of oxides, air instability of sulfides, and narrow electrochemical windows of polymers electrolytes, significantly hinder their practical application. Therefore, developing SSEs that have a high ionic conductivity (>10-3 S cm-1 ), good air stability, wide electrochemical window, excellent electrode interface stability, low-cost mass production is required. Herein we report a halide Li+ superionic conductor, Li3 InCl6 , that can be synthesized in water. Most importantly, the as-synthesized Li3 InCl6 shows a high ionic conductivity of 2.04×10-3 S cm-1 at 25 °C. Furthermore, the ionic conductivity can be recovered after dissolution in water. Combined with a LiNi0.8 Co0.1 Mn0.1 O2 cathode, the solid-state Li battery shows good cycling stability.

Abstract: The effects of composition, temperature, and polymer identity on the electrical and viscoelastic properties of block copolymer-based ion gels were investigated. Ion gels were prepared through the self-assembly of poly(styrene-b-ethylene oxide-b-styrene) (SOS) and poly(styrene-b-methyl methacrylate-b-styrene) (SMS) triblock copolymers in a room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsufonyl)imide ([EMI][TFSI]). The styrene end-blocks associate into micelles, whereas the ethylene oxide and methyl methacrylate midblocks are well-solvated by this ionic liquid. The properties of the ion gels were examined over the composition range of 10−50 wt % polymer and temperature range of 25−160 and 25−200 °C for the SOS- and SMS-based gels, respectively. The response of the ion gels to ac electric fields below 1 MHz can be represented by a resistor and constant phase element (CPE) series circuit, with a characteristic time corresponding to the establishment of stable electrical double l...
