TL;DR: In this paper, the redox and acid-base properties of iodine in three oxidation states (+1,0,−1) have been studied in acidic molten aluminum chloride-butylpyridinium chloride system at 40°C Iodine dissolves in the ionic liquid in the molecular form (I 2 ) and can be oxidized to iodine (+I) forming iodine monochloride molecules (ICI) or reduced to iodine (−I) which, depending on Al 2 Cl 7 − concentration, exists as AlCl 3 I − or Al2 Cl 6

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for the arrangement of the polar groups in the mesophase of all short chain Na carboxylates is presented for the smectic A bilayer consisting of R-COO−Na+ ion pairs with interdigitated polar groups.
Abstract: Thermotropic ionic liquid crystals sodium 4‐methylpentanoate and sodium 3‐methylpentanoate have been studied by polarization microscopy and NMR. The quadrupole coupling constant e2qQ/h of 23Na is obtained for the mesophase and the 23Na spin‐lattice relaxation time T1 is reported as a function of temperature in both the mesophase and the isotropic melt. A model is presented for the arrangement of the polar groups in the mesophase of all short chain Na carboxylates—the smectic A bilayer consists of R–COO−Na+ ion pairs with interdigitated polar groups. The observed dependence of the defect size and e2qQ/h of 23Na upon the molecular structure is interpreted in terms of this model. A qualitative discussion of possible relaxation mechanisms contributing to the T1 of 23Na is presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the different oxidation states of Iodine show a distinct dependence on the solvent acidity, and they are stable in neutral butylpyridinium tetrachloroaluminate, but not in acidic melts.
Abstract: : Iodine, iodine chloride, tetraethylammonium iodide and tetraethylammonium triiodide solutions in aluminum chloride - N-(1-butyl)pyridinium chloride ambient temperature ionic liquids have been studied by u.v. - visible spectrophotometry. The different oxidation states of iodine show a distinct dependence on the solvent acidity. Iodine(+1) exists in the form of ICl in acidic melts and in the form of ICl2 in basic AlCl3-BuPyCl mixtures. Molecular iodine does not form strong complexes in acidic or neutral solutions. Triiodide ion is stable in neutral butylpyridinium tetrachloroaluminate, but not in acidic melts.

TL;DR: In this article, the atomic structure of a collection of charged hard spheres is studied as a function of ionic charge and electronic screening using a pair potential of the Yukawa form.
Abstract: The atomic structure of a collection of charged hard spheres is studied as a function of ionic charge and electronic screening using a pair potential of the Yukawa form. By varying the ionic charge, Q, and the screening parameter, lambda , independently, the authors have determined the effect of each separately. For a temperature typical of liquid metal alloys (T approximately=900K) they find that a structure similar to that of an ionic liquid occurs for Q>or approximately=0.6e if lambda =0 and for Q=0.8e if lambda

TL;DR: The magnetic susceptibility of liquid Rb-Au alloys and the optical absorption of the solid and liquid equimolar alloy RbAu have been measured up to temperatures of 1000°C.
Abstract: The magnetic susceptibility of liquid Rb – Au alloys and the optical absorption of the solid and liquid equimolar alloy RbAu have been measured up to temperatures of 1000°C. The optical gap of solid RbAu shows Urbach type behaviour with E0 = 2.75 ± 0.1 eV. On melting it is reduced by about 1 eV: Eg(510°C) = 1.35 ± 0.1 eV. The magnetic susceptibility exhibits a strong diamagnetic minimum near the equiatomic composition yielding further evidence that liquid RbAu is semiconducting and predominantly ionic in bonding. The observed deviation from the expected susceptibility value for purely ionic RbAu and the high optical absorption in the near infrared suggest that localized paramagnetic electron states exist in the ionic liquid, possibly in equilibrium with free carriers. Like Cs – Au the alkali metal-gold system Rb – Au thus closely resembles the alkali metal-halogen systems the major differences arising from the reduced charge transfer and chemical ordering in these alloys.
