TL;DR: This article analyzes the mechanisms of resource allocation and admission control by employing logical interfaces that carry SIP messages in order to reach converged communications.
Abstract: A technical prerequisite for a converged network is a common service delivery platform that is independent from the access networks below. The 3GPP SIP-based IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is defined for this purpose. By specification, IMS is the first implementation towards reaching converged communications which allows users to communicate with video, audio and multimedia content, via any fixed, mobile and wireless access network type, with controllable QoS. This article analyzes the mechanisms of resource allocation and admission control by employing logical interfaces that carry SIP messages.

23 Feb 2001TL;DR: In this paper, a communication system comprises an IP network offering services to users and an IPT provider network providing call related functions to users, where a control protocol message is received and analyzed by a respective serving entity in the IPT service provider network.
Abstract: A communication system comprises an IP network offering services to users and an IPT provider network providing call related functions to users. A control protocol message is received and analyzed by a respective serving entity in the IPT provider network. Depending on the analyzing result, call related functions are performed by the respective serving entity. Moreover, a received control protocol message is analyzed by the IP network and, depending on the analyzing result, services are executed by the IP network.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a system in which parts of a multimedia service which is executed in a mobile terminal are structured in form of different software components, such as control application, applications for video, audio, data etc.
Abstract: The invention is characterized in that parts of a multimedia service which is executed in a mobile terminal is structured in form of different software components. The structure implies that an operator who provides the service is given possibility to distribute the service in different parts via a data connection, control channel, to a user terminal. This implies that the service is divided into a number of software components such as control application, applications for video, audio, data etc, and a service function. By structuring the service in this way, the operator can tailor and, when applicable, upgrade a multimedia service in a user terminal by loading down, via the control channel, different versions of software components.

14 Mar 2012TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a handover protocol for an emergency call that is routed over an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, network, where the emergency call is first transferred from an access in a first region served by a first Mobility Management Entity, MME, to a second region served as a second MME.
Abstract: A method performs a Single Radio Voice Call Continuity, SRVCC, Packet Switched, PS, to Circuit Switched, CS, handover of an emergency call that is routed over an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, network. The emergency call is first transferred from an access in a first region served by a first Mobility Management Entity, MME, to a second region served by a second MME. The method includes sending a first handover request from the first MME to the second MME to transfer the call to the second region. The first handover request includes an Emergency Session Transfer Number for SRVCC, E-STN-SR, identifying an Emergency Access Transfer Function, EATF, in the first region. A second handover request for handover to a CS access is sent to a target Mobile Switching Centre, MSC, and includes the E-STN-SR. The emergency call is handed over to the CS access using the E-STN-SR to route the call via the EATF in the first region.

27 Jun 2008TL;DR: The rapid spread of IP-based Access technologies and the move towards Core Network Convergence with IMS has led to an explosion in multimedia content delivery across packet networks, leading to a much wider and richer service experience.
Abstract: The rapid spread of IP-based Access technologies and the move towards Core Network Convergence with IMS has led to an explosion in multimedia content delivery across packet networks IMS provides mobile and multimedia services to the customer along with fixed networks support leading to mobile and fixed convergence The use of open standard IP protocols, defined by the IETF, allows IMS to easily introduce new services This transition has led to a much wider and richer service experience, though service experience is limited to the services offered by the service provider subscribed by the customer
