TL;DR: The purpose behind designing the framework is to evaluate the provisioning of quality-adaptive multimedia services on IMS network and analyze the performance with respect to delay induced by quality adaptation procedures during session and terminal mobility which might contribute towards the end-to- end quality of service delivered to the users.
Abstract: IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) originating from the 3GPP is pivotal on the road to next generation all-IP networks. Multimedia applications are potential drivers for the adoption of next generation IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) and could be a decisive factor in its deployment. They are expected to generate revenue to the operators and justify their investment in IMS. And, for these multimedia services to be widely accepted by the end users, guaranteed and adaptable quality of service provision across heterogeneous access networks and heterogeneous device types is mandatory. In this paper, a generic, adaptive, controlled service delivery framework implementation for multimedia applications on IMS architecture is proposed. The framework is designed to be user-centric, adaptable to terminal mobility and session mobility with minimum session disruption enabling a better end-to-end QoS. It is at the session-level, completely user-driven and does not account for the network-level QoS. It employs the Session initiation protocol (SIP), which is the signaling protocol for the 3GPP specified IMS. The purpose behind designing the framework is to evaluate the provisioning of quality-adaptive multimedia services on IMS network and analyze the performance with respect to delay induced by quality adaptation procedures during session and terminal mobility which might contribute towards the end-to- end quality of service delivered to the users.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide means and methods for recovery of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) where a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) holding subscriber data for subscribers of the IMS has suffered a restart.
Abstract: The present invention is aimed to provide means and methods for recovery of an IP Multimedia Subsystem ‘IMS’ where a Home Subscriber Server ‘HSS’ holding subscriber data for subscribers of the IMS has suffered a restart. A first method of recovery is applied after detecting a HSS restart, and as receiving a registration from a given subscriber or an invitation to communicate with a given subscriber from another subscriber. A second method of recovery is applied after detecting a HSS restart, and as receiving a request from a given subscriber at a S-CSCF previously assigned for serving the given subscriber in the IMS. Both first and second methods may be applied in the IMS separately, or in cooperation, following a best effort to ensure that, whatever event occurs first, receiving a registration from a given subscriber, or an invitation to communicate with a given subscriber, or receiving a request from a given subscriber at a S-CSCF previously assigned, the actions triggered by the first method or by the second method achieve the recovery of the IMS without further actions not applied yet from said second or first methods.

TL;DR: NTT, the biggest carrier in Japan, is constructing a nationwide ATM network in two phases: the first phase, in early 1995, at 2.4Gb/s, and the final phase at 10Gb/S, which will be the ideal infrastructure for advanced multimedia services.
Abstract: A high-speed ATM network is required for multimedia services. NTT, the biggest carrier in Japan, is constructing a nationwide ATM network in two phases: the first phase, in early 1995, at 2.4Gb/s, and the final phase at 10Gb/s. The network: will be accessed by the 156Mb/s ATM User Network Interface (UNI), and thus will be the ideal infrastructure for advanced multimedia services. NTT has, however, found immaturity of multimedia services applications and telecommunication systems aspects, including rules and tariffs.

TL;DR: In this paper, an internet protocol (IP) interfacing apparatus for controlling non IP-based network devices with IP based network devices and a method for remote control access over certain electronic devices through computer networks is disclosed.
Abstract: Remote control access over certain electronic devices through computer networks is disclosed. Particularly, an internet protocol (IP) interfacing apparatus for controlling non IP-based network devices with IP-based network devices and a method therefor is disclosed. The IP interfacing apparatus according to the present invention includes a dynamic home page assisting section for collecting information on the predetermined electronic devices to assist in construction and processing of a dynamic home page in accordance with assistance in construction of a dynamic web server, and a function control converting section for converting a function control demand by the IP-based networks to a function control of the non IP-based networks by converting a predetermined function selected through HTTP in said IP-based networks to a control command in said non IP-based network.
