TL;DR: In this article, a mild and direct platinum on carbon (Pt/C)-catalyzed multi-deuterium labeling of various saturated fatty acids including bioactive compounds with high deuterium efficiencies in a mixed solvent of isopropyl alcohol and D2O was presented.
Abstract: We have established a mild and direct platinum on carbon (Pt/C)-catalyzed multi-deuterium labeling of various saturated fatty acids including bioactive compounds with high deuterium efficiencies in a mixed solvent of isopropyl alcohol and deuterium oxide (i-PrOH)/D2O under neutral conditions at 120 °C without the external addition of deuterium or hydrogen gas.

TL;DR: Allopregnan-21–ol–3,20-dione acetate either in ethanol or in isopropyl alcohol reduced the percentage of eggs hatching and tended to be differentially lethal to female emb...
Abstract: An account is given of the effects of the immersion of 4108 fertile, preincubation, hen‘s eggs into ethanol solutions of diethylstilbestrol (DES), and of 1524 such eggs into isopropyl alcohol solutions of DES. The percentage of hatched genetic male chicks showing feminization at hatching increased, on the average, with increasing concentrations of DES in the dipping solutions and, up to a point, with increased immersion time. Occasional small percentages of genetic females were virilized by the ethanol solutions, but were not seen in the experiments were isopropyl alcohol was the solvent. Maximal morphological reversions were observed in isopropyl alcohol solutions of DES. Ethinyl estradiol in ethanol solution also induced significant percentages of feminization, while testosterone in ethanol irregularly induced limited masculinization. Allopregnan-21–ol–3,20-dione acetate either in ethanol or in isopropyl alcohol reduced the percentage of eggs hatching and tended to be differentially lethal to female emb...

TL;DR: The size and polydispersity of hyaluronic acid nanoparticles correlated with the surface tension between water and the organic solvents, not with the thermodynamic affinity of water for the organicsolvents.
Abstract: Hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic mucopolysaccharide composed of alternating units of D-glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine. It is used in many medical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications, as sponges, films, or particle formulations. Hyaluronic acid nanoparticles can be synthesized free of oil and surfactants by nanoprecipitation in organic solvents, followed by chemical crosslinking. The organic solvent plays an important role in particles size and structure. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of acetone, ethanol, and isopropyl alcohol on the synthesis and physico-chemical properties of hyaluronic acid nanoparticles. Particles were crosslinked with adipic hydrazide and chloride carbodiimide under controlled conditions. The nanoparticles obtained with all three studied solvents were moderately electrostatically stable. Experiments with acetone produced the smallest particle size (120.44 nm) and polydispersity (0.27). The size and polydispersity of hyaluronic acid nanoparticles correlated with the surface tension between water and the organic solvents, not with the thermodynamic affinity of water for the organic solvents.

TL;DR: Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) is an industrially important solvent and chemical intermediate, which after methyl methacrylate and bisphenol A is the third largest tonnage product obtained from acetone as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) is an industrially important solvent and chemical intermediate, which after methyl methacrylate and bisphenol A is the third largest tonnage product obtained from acetone MIBK is produced by four different routes: a three-step process via diacetone alcohol and mesityl oxide intermediates; a one-step process from acetone and hydrogen; a one-step process from isopropyl alcohol; and a single or multistep mixed feed process MIBK is generally considered to exhibit low mammalian toxicity However, MIBK must be handled with adequate ventilation Its vapor is heavier than air and can travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition The major use of MIBK is as a solvent for surface coatings It is also used in a variety of nonsurface-coating applications As a raw material it is used in the manufacture of rubber antiozonants Keywords: methyl isobuty ketone; acetone; solvents; antiozonants; mesityl oxide
