Abstract: From the flowers of Bombax ceiba L. (Family: Bombacaceae) twenty-four compounds were isolated and identified, including ten flavonoids, quercetin (1), quercetin-3-O--D-glucopyranoside (2), quercetin-3-O--D-glucuronopyranoside (3), rutin (4), sexangularetin-3-O-sophoroside (5), vitexin (6), isovitexin (7), vicenin 2 (8), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (18), and kaempferol-3-O--D-glucuronopyranoside (23); three xanthones, isomangiferin (9), mangiferin (10), and 7-O-methyl mangiferin (11); four coumarins, esculetin (12), scopoletin (13), fraxetin (14), and scopolin (21); and seven other compounds, blumenol C glucopyranoside (15), benzyl--D-glucopyranoside (16), phenylethyl rutinoside (17), protocatechulic acid (19), chlorogenic acid (20), methyl chlorogenate (22) and vanillic acid (24). Among these, 13 compounds (3, 5, 6, 9, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23 and 24) were isolated for the first time from B. ceiba.

TL;DR: A specific, simple, rapid and sensitive high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for determination of 13 components of C. communis Linn, which included orientin, iso-orientin, vitex in, isovitexin, rutin, apigenin, protocatechuate, vanillic acid, caffeic acid and ferulic acid.
Abstract: This study reported the identification and determination of the main components of Commelina communis Linn. A total of 62 compounds were identified in C. communis Linn. extract, which included 29 flavonoids and flavonoid glycosides, 17 phenolic acids, 4 alkaloids, 1 pyrimidine alkaloids, 3 sterols and 8 fatty acids and others by ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled with hybrid triple quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Moreover, a specific, simple, rapid and sensitive high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for determination of 13 components of C. communis Linn., which included orientin, iso-orientin, vitexin, isovitexin, rutin, apigenin, protocatechuate, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, luteolin, quercetin and isorhamnetin. All calibration curves showed good linearity (r ≥ 0.9991) within the test range. The intra- and inter-day precisions (relative standard deviation%, RSD%) were within 1.04 and 0.92%, and the recoveries ranged from 98.64 to 100.8%. These results may contribute to the further study and quality control for C. communis Linn.

TL;DR: The REMA (Resazurin Microtiter Assay) assay was used to measure the biological activity in vitro against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and results showed moderate activity of the ethanolic extract, while S. erecta inhibited the growth of all microorganisms.
Abstract: Serjania erecta Radlk.(Sapindaceae) is a medicinal plant traditionally used in Brazil. We assayed the ethanolic extract of leaves and roots against seven microorganisms. The REMA (Resazurin Microtiter Assay) assay was used to measure the biological activity in vitro against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and our results showed moderate activity of the ethanolic extract. On the other hand S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, S. setubal, C. albicans, S. cerevisiae and E. coli revealed that the leaves and roots of S. erecta inhibited the growth of all microorganisms. The ethanolic extracts of leaves and roots showed low values of antioxidant activities. The ethanolic extracts of leaves and roots were analyzed by chromatographic and spectrometric methods. (-)-Epicatechin, kaempferol aglycone and five glycoside derivates were isolated: kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside from the roots and kaempferol, kaempferol 3,7-di-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, vitexin, isovitexin and (-)-epicatechin in the leaves. This is the first chemical study reported in the literature about this specie.
