Abstract: Particulate material is fed from a holding vessel 1 to be entrained by a gas supplied through a jet nozzle 10, the holding vessel having an ullage which is maintained at a pressure of at least 0.05 MPa but less than the pressure at which gas is introduced to the jet nozzle 10. The method is particularly usefully employed in an impact jet mill in which the entrained particles impinge upon a surface 12, are reflected into another jet and passed into a cylindrical separation chamber 17. The holding vessel 3 has a supply pipe 4 for supplying a compressed gas and the material is supplied to vessel 3 from a hopper 5 mounted above a rotable air lock 6.

Abstract: Spiral jet mill has >=1 cylindrical milling chamber into the periphery of which a compressed gas is injected. The feed enters with the aid of a further gas jet. Before this injectin gas jet for the material, the inlet channel contains a number deflections which form sound reflection surfaces. The milling chamber itself consists of >=2 ring shaped bodies located inside an outer housing. This contains nozzles which injects the compressed gas into the chamber where it expands. These jet rings can have different dia and the chamber cross section can reduce downwards. For use in the attrition of materials to powder in the range 0.5 to 10 mu m esp. pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics, preservatives or dry lubricants. The problem with existing jet mills is their excessive noise and relative space requirement. The invention described overcomes this problem.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject uniform copolymer having small average particle diameter and narrow particle size distribution at a low cost by carrying coarse particles of poly-beta-alanine copolymer on a jet stream and subjecting the particles to collision and pulverization. CONSTITUTION:Coarse particles of a poly-beta-alanine copolymer having a reduced viscosity (etaSP/C) of 0.2-15dl/g are pulverized in a jet mill pulverizer, etc., using a dehumidified air, inert gas, etc., having a water content of 1,000 to 500ppm or less at a jet stream velocity of Mach 0.5 to 5.0 (preferably Mach 1 to 3) and classified with a classifier to obtain the objective copolymer having an average particle diameter of 1.0 to 10.0mum. The pulverization and classification are repeated until the particle size reaches the target level.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for pulverizing a powder which enables efficiently and more finely pulverizing raw powder and enables obtaining the pulverized fine powder in a high yield. SOLUTION: In this method for pulverizing powder, a jet mill main body container is provided with a feeder for feeding the raw powder thereinto which is disposed on the side surface of intermediate part, a collision wall disposed on the inner part of the intermediate part and a jet nozzle disposed on the lower part side which jets the gas at high speed. Therein, the raw powder is fed into the jet mill main body container from the feeder, at the same time, the gas is jetted at high speed from the jet nozzle of jet mill, the raw powder is accelerated by the high speed jet gas stream, is made to collide with the collision wall and, thereby, is pulverized. Therein, further, very low temperature gas whose temperature is 0 deg.C or less is used as the said gas.
