TL;DR: In this paper, the first Kapur function was used to obtain the selection and breakage functions for SiC particles in a fluidized bed-opposed jet mill and a polynomial for the Kapur functions was proposed to effectively simulate the product size distributions under various conditions.
Abstract: The grinding process of silicon carbide(SiC) particles in a fluidized bed opposed jet mill was analyzed by population balance modeling.The model could be solved by a simple first Kapur function to obtain the selection and breakage functions.It was found that these two functions were related to some operating parameters such as inlet pressure,feed rate and distance between the nozzle outlet and meeting point in the mill.The breakage mechanism for SiC particles in the mill could be discussed by these functions.A polynomial for the Kapur functions was proposed to effectively simulate the product size distributions under various conditions.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and precisely setting jet mill grinding conditions for stably obtaining a powder having a specified grain size distribution SOLUTION: First, a plurality of factors influencing a grinding process are selected, then a plurality of levels are selected for every selected factor and the selected factor and the selected level are allotted to an orthogonal arrangement table according to an experimental planning method, and the grain is test-ground in accordance with grinding conditions based on the orthogonal arrangement table Further, the particle diameter (D 50 ) which accounts for 50% of the integrated grain size distribution (volume standard) from the small particle diameter side of the obtained powder, and/or the particle diameter (D 90 ) which accounts for 90% of the integrated grain size distribution (volume standard) from the small particle diameter side of the obtained powder, is measured Then, the scatter analysis of the measurements is performed, then the promising factors to D 50 and/or D 90 are specified, and the point estimation and the interval estimation of D 50 and/or D 90 are carried out at each level of the specified promising factors Further, the desired jet mill grinding conditions are decided according to the estimate and the confidence interval sought by the point estimation and the interval estimation COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain composition for injection molding powder metallurgy, which can be injection-molded to a product having excellent dimensional accuracy, by spheroidizing shape of irregular shaped metal powder made by the water atomizing method, etc., with mechanical treatment and kneading with the specific ratio of binder. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal is pulverized with the water atomizing method, etc., and the metal particles having irregular shape and <=50mum particle diameter are spheroidized with the mechanical means of impact type pulverizing machine, etc., such as jet mill, hammer mill. To 11 vol. parts of the spheroidized metal powders, 9 vol. parts of thermoplastic binder, such as ethylene polymer, wax, are added and sufficiently kneaded. This kneaded composition is injection- molded with an injection molding machine and by executing sintering after debinder treating, the injection-molded powder metallurgy product having excellent dimensional accuracy can be produced.
