TL;DR: In this article, the structure of 67Ga-binding acid mucopolysaccharide in tumor tissues was determined from measuring neutral saccharides in the structure, and it was determined that the principal acid acid acid in the tumor was either keratan sulfate and/or keratan polysulfate.
Abstract: The present study was undertaken to determine the structure of67Ga-binding acid mucopolysaccharide in tumor tissues. It was determined from measuring neutral saccharide in the structure that the principal67Ga-binding acid mucopolysaccharide in the tumor was keratan sulfate and/or keratan polysulfate. On the other hand, it was clarified from the results of mucopolysaccharase treatment that the main67Ga-binding acid mucopolysaccharide in tumor was not keratan sulfate, heparan sulfate, heparin, nor chondroitin sulfate A, B, or C. Based on the present results, it was deduced that the main67Ga-binding acid mucopolysaccharide in tumor is keratan polysulfate and that this acid mucopolysaccharide plays the most important role in tumor accumuation of67Ga.

TL;DR: Chondroitin 6-sulfotransferase (C6ST) catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of GalNAc residues of chond Detroitin, which is one of the major components of aggrecan and is thought to be involved in the formation and maintenance of cartilage.
Abstract: Chondroitin sulfate chains are composed of GlcAβ1-3GalNAcβ1-4 repeating unit with sulfate groups on GalNAc residues or on both GalNAc and GlcA residues. Sulfate groups attached to the backbone sugar chain produce various chondroitin sulfate isomers. Chondroitin 6-sulfate, which contains sulfate at position 6 of the GalNAc residue, is one of the major components of aggrecan and is thought to be involved in the formation and maintenance of cartilage. Chondroitin 6-sulfate is also contained in other various proteoglycans, such as phosphacan/PTPζ, and is proposed to be involved in neuronal cell interactions with growth factors pleiotrophin and midkine (Maeda et al. 1996, 1999). Chondroitin 6-sulfotransferase (C6ST) catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 6 of GalNAc residues of chondroitin. C6ST also sulfates the 6-position of Gal residue of keratan sulfate and sialyl N-acetyllactosamine oligosaccharides.

TL;DR: The role of chondroitin sulfate and its associate proteoglycans in rheumatoid arthritis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is discussed in this article.
Abstract: Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a ubiquitous glycosaminoglycan covalently attached to the core proteins of cell surface, extracellular, and intracellular proteoglycans. The multistep and highly regulated biosynthesis of chondroitin sulfate, and its degradation products give rise to a diverse species of molecules with functional regulatory properties in biological systems. This review will elucidate and expand on the most recent advances in understanding the role of chondroitin sulfate and its associate proteoglycans, in arthritis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), two different and discrete pathologies. Highlighting not only the biodiverse nature of this family of molecules, but the utilization of CS proteoglycans, CS, and its catabolic fragments as biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for disease pathologies.

TL;DR: Morphologic results exactly paralleled those previously reported by us for the bovine cornea with the exception that the effects of CaCl2 extraction of GAG-GP were not evident on the collagen fibers until the second to fifth sequential CaCl 2 extraction.
