TL;DR: A phenomenological Landau model for tilted bilayer membranes that includes coupling between tangent-plane order and membrane shape (or curvature) and chiral couplings present when constituent molecules are chiral is presented.
Abstract: We develop and analyze a continuum Landau theory for ordered chiral and achiral bilayer membranes. This theory contains couplings between tangent-plane orientational order and curvature that lead to ``rippled'' or ${\mathrm{P}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\beta}}\ensuremath{'}}$ phases with one-dimensional height modulations and to phases with two-dimensional height modulations. We calculate mean-field phase diagrams from this model.

TL;DR: It is shown that the frequency dispersion that is the hallmark of relaxor behavior is quantitatively related to the crystal chemical characteristics of the solid solution.
Abstract: Despite intensive investigations over the past five decades, the microscopic origins of the fascinating dielectric properties of $AB{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ relaxor ferroelectrics are currently poorly understood. Here, we show that the frequency dispersion that is the hallmark of relaxor behavior is quantitatively related to the crystal chemical characteristics of the solid solution. Density functional theory is used in conjunction with experimental determination of cation arrangement to identify the 0 K structural motifs. These are then used to parametrize a simple phenomenological Landau theory that predicts the universal dependence of frequency dispersion on the solid solution cation arrangement and off-center cation displacements.

TL;DR: A unified framework of the Landau theory of phase transitions in statistical systems is applied to the description of the shape transitions in hot rotating nuclei in this article, where the authors derive and discuss the most general features of these transitions which are expected to have a universal character.

TL;DR: In this paper, the existence of a global semiflow for the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation on the space of bounded functions in infinite domain was proved in dimension 1 and 2.
Abstract: We investigate the existence of a global semiflow for the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation on the space of bounded functions in infinite domain. This semiflow is proven to exist in dimension 1 and 2 for any parameter values of the standard cubic Ginzburg-Landau equation. In dimension 3 we need some restrictions on the parameters but cover nevertheless some part of the Benjamin-Feir unstable domain.
