TL;DR: In this article, the system of partial differential equations governing the dynamics of martensitic phase transitions in shape memory alloys under the presence of a (possibly small) viscous stress is investigated.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the system of partial differential equations governing the dynamics of martensitic phase transitions in shape memory alloys under the presence of a (possibly small) viscous stress. The corresponding free energy is assumed in Landau--Ginzburg form and nonconvex as a function of the order parameter. Results concerning the asymptotic behavior of the solution as time tends to infinity are proved, and the compactness of the orbit is shown.

TL;DR: A Landau-type free energy based on a primary order parameter coupled to finite strain with an elastic energy derived from an arbitrary equation of state V = V(P) is constructed.
Abstract: We show how to construct a Landau-type free energy based on a primary order parameter coupled to finite strain with an elastic energy derived from an arbitrary equation of state V = V(P). The resulting class of models provides an excellent and efficient framework for the systematic study of phase transformations for a wide range of materials up to ultrahigh pressures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic energies and critical fields of networks of thin wires are calculated for the square net and the Sierpinski gasket and the results are applied to percolation clusters.
Abstract: 2014 The magnetic energies and critical fields of networks of thin wires are calculated for the square net and the Sierpinski gasket and the results are applied to percolation clusters. The results are obtained by a systematic expansion of the Landau Ginzburg equations around the constant amplitude London limit. The role of flux quantization and local critical currents are included in a systematic way. For percolation we assume a short distance self similar fractal structure of the clusters with proper crossovers and inclusion of the Stauffer cluster distribution. Simple scaling forms for the magnetic energy and for the superconducting coherence length, and for the critical field of finite clusters and of the infinite cluster are obtained. The results are compared with other studies of the same problem and the origin of the discrepancies is discussed. We also discuss existing experiments and suggest some new experimental approaches. J. TL;DR: Using the Landau theory of phase transitions, Arrott plots, the high field and the paramagnetic susceptibility and the magnetization of heterogeneous weakly ferromagnetic alloys are calculated analytically for a simple model for the heterogeneity as discussed by the authors.
