TL;DR: The landing gear of a helicopter is a rod including nested first and second tubes between which there slides a cylinder whose outer end supports a running gear; a strut surrounding the top of the rod, including a steering mechanism cooperating with a rotary tube disposed between the rod and the strut; and a fluid actuator constituted by at least one chamber between the strut and the rod as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The landing gear comprises: a rod including nested first and second tubes between which there slides a cylinder whose outer end supports a running gear; a strut surrounding the top of the rod and including a steering mechanism cooperating with a rotary tube disposed between the rod and the strut; and a fluid actuator constituted by at least one chamber between the strut and the rod and having a feed inlet only. The landing gear is particularly applicable to helicopters that are required to "kneel down" camel fashion, e.g., for storage in the hold of an aircraft carrier or a cargo plane.

TL;DR: In this paper, a refined unstructured mesh is generated for resolving the boundary layer up to y around one by using a Zonal Detached Eddy Simulation (ZDES) model, implemented inside ONERA's code CEDRE.
Abstract: This paper is part of ONERA's effort to compute the noise generation around landing gears, effort that has been shown with studies on a variety of configurations such as the ones included inside the BANC-II (Benchmark problems for Airframe Noise Computations). In this case, the addressed geometry is the LAGOON baseline nose landing gear. On the present computation, a refined unstructured mesh is generated for resolving the boundary layer up to y around one. The simulation of the flow was performed using a Zonal Detached Eddy Simulation (ZDES) model, implemented inside ONERA's code CEDRE. The transient data obtained were used as input for a Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings computation over the skin of the landing gear and on a porous surface around it, which was performed using ONERA's in-house code KIM. Both the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic results are compared with the experimental ones obtained at F2 and CEPRA19 test campaigns. The comparisons obtained show a good agreement in terms of mean field, wall pressure (mean and spectral content) and aeroacoustic far-field measurements.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an analysis of airframe noise radiation from the landing gear and wheel wells of commercial aircraft and identify potential noise sources from these sources from available experimental data and theoretical analyses.
Abstract: Prediction of airframe noise radiation from the landing gear and wheel wells of commercial aircraft is examined. Measurements of these components on typical aircraft are presented and potential noise sources identified. Semiempirical expressions for the sound generation by these sources are developed from available experimental data and theoretical analyses. These expressions are employed to estimate the noise radiation from the landing gear and wheel wells for a typical aircraft and to rank order the component sources.
