TL;DR: This work presents a new fast simplified successive cancellation (Fast-SSC) decoder architecture that is able to reduce the memory requirements and has an improved throughput with respect to state of the art Fast- SSC decoders.
Abstract: Polar codes have been selected for use within 5G networks, and are being considered for data and control channel for additional 5G scenarios, like the next generation ultra reliable low latency channel. As a result, efficient fast polar code decoder implementations are essential. In this work, we present a new fast simplified successive cancellation (Fast-SSC) decoder architecture. Our proposed solution is able to reduce the memory requirements and has an improved throughput with respect to state of the art Fast-SSC decoders. We achieve these objectives through a more efficient memory utilization than that of Fast-SSC, which also enables to execute multiple instructions in a single clock cycle. Our work shows that, compared to the state of the art, memory requirements are reduced by 22.2%; at the same time, a throughput improvement of 11.6% is achieved with (1024, 512) polar codes. Comparing equal throughputs, the memory requirements are reduced by up to 60.4%.

TL;DR: In this article, a technique that enables a shared communications medium to achieve an increased data rate under lossy conditions while maintaining low latency is disclosed, which incorporates two aspects that enable the improved performance.
Abstract: A technique that enables a shared communications medium to achieve an increased data rate under lossy conditions while maintaining low latency is disclosed. The technique incorporates two aspects that enable the improved performance. The first aspect comprises the rigorous use of a single message flow between two stations at any given time with interframe spaces that are adjusted to allow an uninterrupted flow of frames. An admission control protocol enforces the single flow. The second aspect is the creation of high shared channel utilization (i.e., 'efficiency'). Efficiency is achieved by generating enough opportunities for stations to get on the air, in part by minimizing backoff intervals when a priority flow is needed.

TL;DR: An important feature of the proposed low latency method is that the decomposition can be performed with a small number of video frames, which reduces latency in the reconstruction and makes it possible for real time processing of surveillance video.
Abstract: We propose a method for analysis of surveillance video by using low rank and sparse decomposition (LRSD) with low latency combined with compressive sensing to segment the background and extract moving objects in a surveillance video. Video is acquired by compressive measurements, and the measurements are used to analyze the video by a low rank and sparse decomposition of a matrix. The low rank component represents the background, and the sparse component, which is obtained in a tight wavelet frame domain, is used to identify moving objects in the surveillance video. An important feature of the proposed low latency method is that the decomposition can be performed with a small number of video frames, which reduces latency in the reconstruction and makes it possible for real time processing of surveillance video. The low latency method is both justified theoretically and validated experimentally.

TL;DR: The evaluation of different channel coding schemes on an AWGN channel with BPSK modulation shows that the systematic convolutional code is the optimum channel coding scheme in terms of better flexibility, low encoding computational latency, and higher reliability for the 5G mobile communication system for short length message transmission in machine-type communication.
Abstract: Some channel coding schemes for 5G mobile communication system is facing difficulty in satisfying the user requirements in machine-type communication. This paper evaluates different channel coding schemes (LDPC, turbo, polar, systematic convolutional, and non-systematic convolutional codes) on an AWGN channel with BPSK modulation of code rate 1/2, in order to suggest the optimum channel coding scheme for the 5G mobile communication system for short length message transmission in machine-type communication. The analysis of the different channel coding schemes is based on flexibility, complexity, latency, and reliability according to the user requirements in machine-type communication. The main user requirements of machine-type communication for 5G channel coding scheme are better flexibility, low complexity, low latency, and high reliability in communication. Hence, the evaluation of different channel coding schemes is mainly based on satisfying user requirements in machine-type communication. The evaluation of the results shows that the systematic convolutional code is the optimum channel coding scheme in terms of better flexibility, low encoding computational latency, and higher reliability for the 5G mobile communication system for short length message transmission ( $$k \le 1024$$ bits) in machine-type communication. Whereas, the polar code has the lowest decoding computational complexity.
