TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed and validated performance measures for Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in Indian context by developing an instrument for facilitating the implementation process in small and medium-scaled enterprises (SMEs) of Vidarbha region.
Abstract: Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is a process-improvement methodology that combines the benefits of both Lean manufacturing techniques and Six Sigma to help companies streamline operations, increase value and reduce waste. This paper aims to develop and validate performance measures for LSS in Indian context by developing an instrument for facilitating the implementation process in small- and medium-scaled enterprises (SMEs) of Vidarbha region. Using a thorough synthesis of the various quality management systems (QMSs), i.e., Six Sigma, total quality management (TQM), ISO, Lean, etc. seven performance measures are identified .Using the survey methodology, the data were obtained from manufacturing as well as service industries in this region; The identified measures were subjected to appropriate statistical tests to establish reliability and validity. On the basis of statistical evaluation, which was carried out by using statistical computing software SPSS 18.0 for Windows, the developed instrument was found to be valid as well as reliable. The validated instrument of LSS factors developed here may be used by manufacturing organisations to implement LSS in SMEs, as well as prioritise their management efforts to assess and implement LSS.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors apply a Lean Six Sigma framework to support continuous improvement in the maritime industry (shipbuilding, logistics services and shipping companies) during COVID-19 pandemics.
Abstract: This study aims to apply a Lean Six Sigma framework to support continuous improvement in the maritime industry (shipbuilding, logistics services and shipping companies) during COVID-19 pandemics. By applying the concepts of Lean Six Sigma and supply chain resilience, the most suitable continuous improvement method for the maritime industry is developed to maintain a resilient supply chain during COVID-19.,A specific shipbuilding, logistics services and shipping company in Indonesia is chosen as the research object. The Lean Six Sigma framework reveals the wastes through the supply chain resilience concept, and implements internal business processes to maintain optimal system performance.,The paper identifies important implementation aspects in applying Lean Six Sigma to shipbuilding, logistics services and shipping. The DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) approach is applied to achieve supply chain resilience. Resilient measures are generated for the case companies to maximize performance during the pandemics.,This paper provides a new insight for integrating Lean Six Sigma and resilience strategies in the maritime industry during COVID-19 disruptions. The authors provide some insights to sustain the performance of the maritime industries under study.,This study is part of the first research in the maritime industry that focuses on continuous improvement during COVID-19 using Lean Six Sigma and supply chain resilience.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed the balance score card (BSC) approach based Lean Six Sigma (LSS) performance measurement system and investigated the critical measures currently practiced by Indian manufacturing organizations.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to develop the balance score card (BSC) approach based Lean Six Sigma (LSS) performance measurement system and investigate the critical measures currently practiced by Indian manufacturing organizations.,This study offers insights of LSS performance measurement from manufacturing industry. Initially, the BSC-based framework is developed to recognize the adoption of LSS performance measures. Then, the framework is applied to nine Indian manufacturing organizations to assess the LSS performance measure practice.,The BSC-based framework of LSS performance evaluation for manufacturing industry is formulated. Then, adoption of these LSS performance measures is investigated with nine Indian manufacturing organizations. The result indicates significant variability in terms of practicing level of LSS measures. However, the majority of organizations are more sensitive to the customer perspectives.,This study reveals a background as to why the performance measurement is required for the success of LSS and for providing practical guidelines for designing performance metrics. The framework interrelates and captures various LSS perspectives and indicator measures, and furnishes a comprehensive outlook of the organization for strategic analysis. This study provides BSC-based template for performing the benchmarking study. This analysis may serve as a reference point for manufacturing organization to determine their system weaknesses, and assist them to concentrate on their most vital and suitable criteria and objectives. However, the analysis contributes to the knowledge on LSS performance measurement system and catches differences in theory and practice, paving the approach to newer research.,This study renders an industry-oriented LSS performance measurement practical approach and suggests the easily adopted vital performance measures for different manufacturing organizations.
