TL;DR: The advantages of high efficiency and long life span of conventional LED chips are inherited by miniaturized ones as the size gets smaller, the resolution enhances, but at the expense of elevating the complexity of fabrication as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Displays based on inorganic light-emitting diodes (LED) are considered as the most promising one among the display technologies for the next-generation The chip for LED display bears similar features to those currently in use for general lighting, but it size is shrunk to below 200 microns Thus, the advantages of high efficiency and long life span of conventional LED chips are inherited by miniaturized ones As the size gets smaller, the resolution enhances, but at the expense of elevating the complexity of fabrication In this review, we introduce two sorts of inorganic LED displays, namely relatively large and small varieties The mini-LEDs with chip sizes ranging from 100 to 200 μm have already been commercialized for backlight sources in consumer electronics applications The realized local diming can greatly improve the contrast ratio at relatively low energy consumptions The micro-LEDs with chip size less than 100 μm, still remain in the laboratory The full-color solution, one of the key technologies along with its three main components, red, green, and blue chips, as well color conversion, and optical lens synthesis, are introduced in detail Moreover, this review provides an account for contemporary technologies as well as a clear view of inorganic and miniaturized LED displays for the display community

TL;DR: In this paper, an active matrix LED display has a light-dependent device for detecting the brightness of the display element and threshold voltage measurement circuitry for measuring a threshold voltage of a pixel the drive transistor.
Abstract: An active matrix LED display has a light-dependent device for detecting the brightness of the display element and threshold voltage measurement circuitry for measuring a threshold voltage of a pixel the drive transistor. Compensation for ageing of the display element is thus provided by an optical feedback path, and compensation for drive transistor threshold variations is provided by measurement of the threshold voltage. This provides a reliable compensation scheme for the threshold voltage variations, whilst also providing ageing compensation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a display may include a substrate including an array of pixels with each pixel including multiple subpixels, and each subpixel within a pixel is designed for a different color emission spectrum.
Abstract: A display and method of manufacture are described. The display may include a substrate including an array of pixels with each pixel including multiple subpixels, and each subpixel within a pixel is designed for a different color emission spectrum. An array of micro LED device pairs are mounted within each subpixel to provide redundancy. An array of wavelength conversion layers comprising phosphor particles are formed over the array of micro LED device pairs for tunable color emission spectrum.

TL;DR: A hand held paper pager is disclosed in which a transmitted message is displayed in alpha/numeric form by a precessing display which moves the received message across the display in a continuous fashion so that the display need to only present a relatively small portion of the total message at any given time.
Abstract: A hand held paper pager is disclosed in which a transmitted message is displayed in alpha/numeric form by a precessing display which moves the received message across the display in a continuous fashion so that the display need be only large enough to present a relatively small portion of the total message at any given time. In one embodiment a dot matrix LED display is used and is driven by a recirculating shift register memory to provide the precession of the message as a result of the recirculation. In another embodiment the pager may also include a message entry section in which the precessing display is used to present and edit the message prior to transmission either via an acoustic telephone link to a remote transmitter, or directly from a transmitter carried in the pager/encoder package.

TL;DR: In this paper, an on-screendisplay control circuit controls the display of character information on the television and has the capability of overlaying the channel number and the channel identification information on video portion of a selected channel displayed on a television for a predetermined period of time.
Abstract: A subscriber terminal includes a receiver for receiving a television signal including video, audio and data information. A channel of the television signal may be selected for display on the television. A memory stores channel identification information such as channel identifiers. The channel identifiers include at least one display character. A processor establishes a relationship between channel identification information and channel numbers associated with channels of the television signal. An on-screendisplay control circuit controls the display of character information on the television and has the capability of overlaying the channel number and the channel identification information on the video portion of a selected channel displayed on the television for a predetermined period of time. Program identification information such as program titles may also be displayed. Alternatively or additionally, the channel identification information may be displayed on a display such as an LED display of a subscriber terminal.
