TL;DR: In this article, the regularities of heat transfer to the liquid metals in round tubes are analyzed on the basis of the original experimental data, and the most reliable results, which are free from the effect of the contact thermal resistance on heat transfer, can be obtained only from the measured temperature distribution in the flow.
Abstract: The main periods of investigations of heat transfer to liquid metals are considered. The specific features of liquid metals as coolants for nuclear power installations are discussed. The methods and the technologies used in the experiments to determine the values of the heat-transfer coefficients are described. The regularities of heat transfer to the liquid metals in round tubes are analyzed on the basis of the original experimental data. It is noted that the most reliable results, which are free from the effect of the contact thermal resistance on heat transfer, can be obtained only from the measured temperature distribution in the flow.

TL;DR: In this paper, an X-ray source is provided with a liquid metal target (3) which flows through a system of ducts and is conducted through a duct section whose flow cross-section is reduced relative to that of the ducts.
Abstract: The invention relates to an X-ray source which is provided with a liquid metal target (3) which flows through a system of ducts (6) and is conducted through a duct section (8) whose flow cross-section is reduced relative to that of the system of ducts. The X-ray source is characterized notably in that there is provided a pressure source (12, 13; 14; 16) for acting on the liquid metal target (3) in such a manner that in the operating condition of the X-ray source the pressure in the liquid metal target (3) at the area of the reduced flow cross-section equals essentially a selectable reference value (Ps) or remains essentially in a pressure range between selectable limit values (Ps1, Ps2) of the pressure. A comparatively small thickness of a window which is transparent to an electron beam can thus be realized in conjunction with a comparatively high flow speed, that is, without having to accept the risk of cavitations. The invention also relates to an X-ray apparatus provided with an X-ray source of this kind.

TL;DR: In this article, the UMSA device was used for determining micro-structural changes taking place in a near eutectic Al-Si-Cu aluminium cast alloy during heating and cooling process.
Abstract: For determining of the micro-structural changes taking place in a near eutectic Al-Si-Cu aluminium cast alloy during heating and cooling process the UMSA device (Universal Metallurgical Simulator and Analyzer) was used. In this work the dependence between the regulated cooling speed and structure on the basis of the thermo-analysis was carried out. The thermal analysis was performed at a cooling rate in a range of 0,2 °C to 1,25 °C. The changes were examined and evaluated qualitatively by optical and electron scanning microscopy methods and the EDS microanalysis. During the investigation the formation of aluminium reach (α-Al) dendrites was revealed and also the occurrence of the α+β eutectic, the ternary eutectic α+Al2Cu+β, as well a iron and manganese containing phase was confirmed. The performed investigation are discussed for the reason of an possible improvement of thermal and structural properties of the alloy. The achieved results can be used for liquid metal processing in science and industry – for example foundry for developing and obtaining of a required alloy microstructure and properties influenced by a proper production conditions.
