TL;DR: It is found that the violet (405 nm) LED traps captured the most adults of A. dispersus, and the captured numbers were significantly higher than those of blue (460 nm), green (520 nm), yellow (570 nm, and red (650 nm)", which have potential use for improving the efficiency of light traps at attracting and trapping the adult spiralling whitefly.
Abstract: In recent years, light traps with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been widely used in integrated pest management. The spiralling whitefly, Aleurodicus dispersus Russell, a highly invasive pest which causes heavy damage to fruit trees and ornamental plants, exhibits positive phototaxis, and light trap is the most appropriate tool for monitoring. We evaluated the use of LEDs as an inexpensive light source and examined the relationship between the captured number and the population density of adult A. dispersus in the field. We found that the violet (405 nm) LED traps captured the most adults of A. dispersus, and the captured numbers were significantly higher than those of blue (460 nm), green (520 nm), yellow (570 nm), and red (650 nm) LED traps. The adults of A. dispersus captured by light traps equipped with violet LEDs and smeared with liquid paraffin had a significant positive correlation with the population density of adult A. dispersus in a guava orchard, with a correlation coefficient of 0.828. In general, the light traps with 15 violet LED bulbs hung into 550-mL plastic bottles and smeared with liquid paraffin were the portable devices for attraction of adult A. dispersus. The results have potential use for improving the efficiency of light traps at attracting and trapping the adult spiralling whitefly.

Abstract: The invention provides a preparation method of a master batch for plastic bags, especially relates to a preparation method of the high-strength easy-degradation master batch for the plastic bags, and belongs to the technical field of polymer materials. The high-strength easy-degradation master batch for the plastic bags comprises the following components: by weight, 50-60 parts of ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer, 80-100 parts of polyethylene, 20-30 parts of polyvinyl alcohol, 10-20 parts of polylactic acid, 30-40 parts of pentaerythritol, 10-20 parts of octanedioic acid, 5-10 parts of diphenylmethane diisocyanate, 20-40 parts of plant starch, 10-15 parts of urea, 10-15 parts of calcium carbonate, 5-10 parts of titanium oxide, 10-20 parts of liquid paraffin, 5-10 parts of titanate coupling agents, 5-10 parts of compatibilizers, 5-10 parts of plasticizers and 3-5 parts of surfactants. The high-strength easy-degradation master batch for the plastic bags has characteristics of photosensitivity and biodegradability, and through the compatibility of each formulation, mechanical properties can be effectively improved. The longitudinal tensile strength can reach above 16.5MPa, and the transverse tensile strength can reach above 15MPa.

TL;DR: A microfluidic chip to selectively culture mycolic acid containing actinomycetes from environmental samples will improve screening for mycobacteria to protect public health as well as screening forMycob bacteria to reduce the costs associated with treating nocardiafoam at sewage treatment plants.
Abstract: In this paper, we describe the development of a microfluidic culture-based biosensor for detecting mycobacteria in environmental samples. The biochips rely upon the unique paraffinophilic (i.e., wax-loving) nature of mycobacteria to rapidly and selectively differentiate them from non-target microorganisms. A new method of depositing and patterning paraffin was developed to fabricate the prototype biosensors using Opticlear™ as solvent to generate liquid paraffin and pattering with positive photoresist lift-off. The prototype biochips were experimentally tested to demonstrate the concept of rapid and selective detection of mycobacteria using pure cultures and epifluorescence microscopy to visualize microorganisms on the surface. Our successful demonstration of the culture-based biochip technology presents an alternative approach for developing new technology to track microorganisms in complex environmental samples. A microfluidic chip to selectively culture mycolic acid containing actinomycetes from environmental samples will improve screening for mycobacteria to protect public health as well as screening for mycobacteria to reduce the costs associated with treating nocardiafoam at sewage treatment plants.
