Abstract: 1,130,572. Display signs. CALORIFIC APPLIANCES Ltd. 19 Oct., 1965 [19 Oct., 1964 (2); 27 Oct., 1964; 22 Dec., 1964], Nos. 42583/64, 42584/64, 43809/64 and 52097/64. Heading G5C. An edge-illuminated transparent slab is optically joined over substantially its whole area to a light-reflecting faceted surface, the facets being illuminated in predetermined variable manner to give an effect of animation. The slab and reflective surface may be joined by a layer of glucose liquid, glycerol, liquid paraffin, plastics cement, or clear varnish, or by a sheet of transparent regenerated cellulose coated on each side with pressure adhesive, or the reflective surface may be dropped in a pocket of water on the rear face of the slab. The or each edge along which the slab is illuminated may be convex, or notched with a separate lamp opposite each notch, the lamps being lit sequentially. Alternatively continuously lit lamps may be rotated around the slab periphery, or continuously lit lamps or fluorescent tubes be placed around the slab periphery and an endless band with alternate transparent and opaque portions moved continuously either around the slab or the lamps. Two offset faceted surfaces may be joined one to each face of the slab, and the back of each surface covered with a poster.

TL;DR: Bigels with ciclopirox olamine and terbinafine hydrochloride are a promising dosage form for topical use and showed great inhibition of Microsporum canis.
Abstract: Bigels with antifungal substances, ciclopirox olamine and terbinafine hydrochloride, were made of hydrogel (poloxamer 407 gel) and oleogel (polyethylene and liquid paraffin mixture). Prepared bigels were found physically stable at room temperature for six months and at least four months at 40 °C. Released amount of drug decreased when oleogel concentration in the formulation increased. Release test results depended on the insertion place of active substances. The amount of released substance was highest when ciclopirox olamine was incorporated in both phases in an equal quantity, and terbinafine hydrochloride in oleogel or in hydrogel. All formulations showed great inhibition of Microsporum canis. Thus, bigels with ciclopirox olamine and terbinafine hydrochloride are a promising dosage form for topical use.

TL;DR: The optimized headspace-gas chromatography method was developed and optimized and found that the detection limits were below 1μg/vial for each compound, indicating a drastically increased sensitivity compared to the Pharmacopoeia method, which failed to detect the compounds at their respective limit concentrations.

TL;DR: The ingested liquid paraffin was the origin of the neutral lipid in the lipid-laden macrophages observed in the BAL fluid, and classic histochemical staining and electron microscope examination indicated that neutral lipid was dominant but phospholipid was also present in the Lipoid pneumonia patient.
Abstract: An asymptomatic patient with exogenous lipoid pneumonia (ELP) due to silent aspiration of liquid paraffin ingested as a lubricant was diagnosed by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). BAL fluid separated into oily upper phase and lower aqueous phase spontaneously. Microscopic analysis of BAL cells revealed the presence of lipid-laden alveolar macrophages. Classic histochemical staining and electron microscope examination indicated that neutral lipid was dominant but phospholipid was also present in the lipid-laden macrophages. Together with the history of ingestion of liquid paraffin, we identified that the ingested liquid paraffin was the origin of the neutral lipid in the lipid-laden macrophages observed in the BAL fluid.
