TL;DR: With MR imaging, the location and extent of the paraffinoma was visualized, best seen on the fat-suppression sequence, and the surrounding fibroglandular breast tissue was evaluated.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to present the MR appearance of breast paraffinoma, a late complication of breast augmentation by liquid paraffin wax, and to correlate this appearance with the histopathologic findings that were available for three of the 11 breasts we studied. CONCLUSION: Breast paraffinomas have a characteristic MR appearance that correlates well with histopathologic findings. With MR imaging, we were able to visualize the location and extent of the paraffinoma, best seen on the fat-suppression sequence, and to evaluate the surrounding fibroglandular breast tissue.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sustainable and hydrolysis-free dyeing process was developed for polylactic acid (PLA) fibers, which is a biobased alternative to petroleum based polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is the most widely used textile fiber.
Abstract: A sustainable and hydrolysis-free dyeing process was developed for polylactic acid (PLA) fibers. PLA is a biobased alternative to petroleum based polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is the most widely used textile fiber. However, the hydrolytic degradation of PLA fibers under the conventional aqueous dyeing conditions limited its applications in textile industry. A new solvent dyeing process was developed using liquid paraffin as a nonaqueous dyeing medium. High quality dyed PLA fabrics were obtained without consuming water and auxiliaries. Minimal strength loss of dyed fibers was achieved by postheat setting treatment. The 3R principle (reduce, reuse, and recycle) was implemented to ensure the environmental friendliness of solvent dyeing process. The result of a 9-cycle reuse sequence demonstrated excellent color consistency of dyed PLA fabrics. The sustainability of our new dyeing process was quantified in the framework of environmental-health-social impact. The dyeing process sustainability index i...

TL;DR: If upon gradient echo imaging in the postoperative period significant artifact production is noted, stainless steel deposition should be suspected as the causative agent and spin echo techniques should be the first approach for attempting optimal visualization of the spinal cord and soft tissue structures.
Abstract: Study design The magnetic resonance artifact susceptibility of traces of surgical aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel in a human spine model was investigated. Metallic filings were deposited in noncontiguous disc spaces in five human thoracic spines before magnetic resonance imaging with spin echo and gradient echo sequences. Objectives Spin echo and gradient echo sequences were used for quantitate and compare void artifact produced by commonly used surgical metals. This was compared to a liquid paraffin control. Summary of background data No significant susceptibility artifact was seen with any metal in all spin echo sequences, including T1 (TR 600, TE 12), T2 (TR 2000, TE 30), proton density (TR 2000, TE 80), and fast T2 scanning (TR 3800, TE 96, Ef). Methods Sagittal magnetic resonance imaging permitted void artifact quantification and comparison between different metallic alloys. Two neuroradiologists, working on a blinded basis, evaluated all data and rated the void susceptibility artifact on a scale of 1 (least) to 4 (greatest). Results In general, the magnitude of an imaging artifact during magnetic resonance imaging correlated with the magnetism of the metal. Nickel, found in a larger concentration in 316L than in 304 stainless steel, decreases the magnetic resonance artifact of specific metals because of its ability to stabilize iron in a non-magnetic state. Therefore, the 316L stainless steel yielded less artifact production than 304 stainless steel on gradient echo imaging. Conclusion If upon gradient echo imaging in the postoperative period significant artifact production is noted, stainless steel deposition should be suspected as the causative agent. In this situation, spin echo techniques should be the first approach for attempting optimal visualization of the spinal cord and soft tissue structures.

TL;DR: Particle size and release data analysis from five consecutive batches prepared in the laboratory indicated suitable reproducibility of the proposed solvent evaporation process and the Higuchi-order release pattern.
Abstract: Sustained release diclofenac sodium microcapsules were prepared using polymerized rosin as a novel wall-forming material by a solvent evaporation technique. A novel method developed in our laboratory with the potential for scale-up and production of polymerized rosin microcapsules is detailed. These microcapsules might have application for development of implant/depot systems, primarily due to a sustained/controlled release capability and potential biocompatibility of polymerized rosin. The effect of variables like solvent systems, stirring speed and temperature were previously optimized. The solution system of drug and polymerized rosin dissolved in iso-propyl alcohol and acetone is sprayed with the help of a 0.5 mm nozzle spray gun in liquid paraffin maintained at 60°C in the stirring condition. Varying drug:polymer ratios, namely 1:1, 1:2, 2:1, 1:3 and 3:1, were employed for microcapsule preparation. The prepared microcapsules were evaluated for size, shape, drug content and in vitro drug release. The ...
