TL;DR: A literature survey on various virtual reality (VR) treatments in psychiatry collects 36 studies that used VR to provide clinical trials or therapies for patients with psychiatric disorders, and discusses the feasibility of the technology within different stages of dementia as well as the methodological limitations.
Abstract: In this paper, we conduct a literature survey on various virtual reality (VR) treatments in psychiatry. We collected 36 studies that used VR to provide clinical trials or therapies for patients with psychiatric disorders. In order to gain a better understanding of the management of pain and stress, we first investigate VR applications for patients to alleviate pain and stress during immersive activities in a virtual environment. VR exposure therapies are particularly effective for anxiety, provoking realistic reactions to feared stimuli. On top of that, exposure therapies with simulated images are beneficial for patients with psychiatric disorders such as phobia and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Moreover, VR environments have shown the possibility of changing depression, cognition, even social functions. We review empirical evidence from VR-based treatments on psychiatric illnesses such as dementia, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), schizophrenia and autism. Through cognitive training and social skill training, rehabilitation through VR therapies helps patients to improve their quality of life. Recent advances in VR technology also demonstrate potential abilities to address cognitive and functional impairments in dementia. In terms of the different types of VR systems, we discuss the feasibility of the technology within different stages of dementia as well as the methodological limitations. Although there is room for improvement, its widespread adoption in psychiatry is yet to occur due to technical drawbacks such as motion sickness and dry eyes, as well as user issues such as preoccupation and addiction. However, it is worth mentioning that VR systems relatively easily deliver virtual environments with well-controlled sensory stimuli. In the future, VR systems may become an innovative clinical tool for patients with specific psychiatric symptoms.

TL;DR: In this paper, an up-to-date literature survey on efficiency-estimation methods of in-service motors, particularly with considerations of the motor-condition-monitoring requirements, is presented.
Abstract: Condition monitoring of electric motors avoids severe economical losses resulting from unexpected motor failures and greatly improves the system reliability and maintainability. Efficiency estimation, which shares many common requirements with condition monitoring in terms of data collections, is expected to be implemented in an integrated product. This brings more considerations into the selection of the efficiency-estimation methods. This paper presents the results of an up-to-date literature survey on efficiency-estimation methods of in-service motors, particularly with considerations of the motor-condition-monitoring requirements. More than 20 of the most commonly used methods are briefly described and classified into nine categories according to their physical properties. Six categories of these methods are more related to in-service testing and are compared in a table summarizing the required tests and measurements, intrusion level, and average accuracy. Estimation of the rotor speed and the stator resistance, the two stumbling blocks of various efficiency-estimation methods, is also carefully studied; commonly used methods are summarized. Based on the survey results, four efficiency-estimation methods are suggested as candidates for nonintrusive in-service motor-efficiency estimation and condition-monitoring applications. Another contribution of this paper is that a general approach for developing nonintrusive motor-efficiency-estimation methods is proposed, incorporating rotor speed, stator resistance, and no-load loss estimations

TL;DR: This paper provides a survey of the application of fuzzy set theory in production management research, and identifies selected bibliographies on fuzzy sets and applications.
Abstract: Fuzzy set theory has been used to model systems that are hard to define precisely. As a methodology, fuzzy set theory incorporates imprecision and subjectivity into the model formulation and solution process. Fuzzy set theory represents an attractive tool to aid research in production management when the dynamics of the production environment limit the specification of model objectives, constraints and the precise measurement of model parameters. This paper provides a survey of the application of fuzzy set theory in production management research. The literature review that we compiled consists of 73 journal articles and nine books. A classification scheme for fuzzy applications in production management research is defined. We also identify selected bibliographies on fuzzy sets and applications.

TL;DR: A literature survey on this topic has revealed the importance of biochemical approaches for handling the transformation of dyes to smaller, and more environmentally friendlier molecules as discussed by the authors, and various enzymes, microorganisms and other species studied for this purpose have been isolated from different matrices, such as soil and plants.

TL;DR: The broad distinction between an orientation towards comprehending the meaning of learning materials and an orientation toward merely reproducing those materials seems to be a universal feature of all systems of higher education as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Students in higher education exhibit different approaches to learning, but there is evidence that these vary systematically from one culture to another. The broad distinction between an orientation towards comprehending the meaning of learning materials and an orientation towards merely reproducing those materials seems to be a universal feature of all systems of higher education. The former is both consistent and coherent, apparently reflecting the relatively high degree of agreement that exists across different cultures with regard to the goals and purposes of higher education. The latter reflects students' attempts to cope with academic practices that are inappropriate to those goals and purposes; it is more fragmented and more likely to be constructed in a way that is distinctive to each particular cultural context.
