TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide nonspecialists working in the general area of digital communications with a comprehensive overview of this exciting research field, with focus on spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity techniques.
Abstract: The use of multiple antennas for wireless communication systems has gained overwhelming interest during the last decade - both in academia and industry. Multiple antennas can be utilized in order to accomplish a multiplexing gain, a diversity gain, or an antenna gain, thus enhancing the bit rate, the error performance, or the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio of wireless systems, respectively. With an enormous amount of yearly publications, the field of multiple-antenna systems, often called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, has evolved rapidly. To date, there are numerous papers on the performance limits of MIMO systems, and an abundance of transmitter and receiver concepts has been proposed. The objective of this literature survey is to provide non-specialists working in the general area of digital communications with a comprehensive overview of this exciting research field. To this end, the last ten years of research efforts are recapitulated, with focus on spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity techniques. In particular, topics such as transmitter and receiver structures, channel coding, MIMO techniques for frequency-selective fading channels, diversity reception and space-time coding techniques, differential and non-coherent schemes, beamforming techniques and closed-loop MIMO techniques, cooperative diversity schemes, as well as practical aspects influencing the performance of multiple-antenna systems are addressed. Although the list of references is certainly not intended to be exhaustive, the publications cited will serve as a good starting point for further reading.

TL;DR: This article describes the most promising aerial drone applications and outline characteristics of aerial drones relevant to operations planning, and provides insights into widespread and emerging modeling approaches to civil applications of UAVs.
Abstract: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or aerial drones, are an emerging technology with significant market potential. UAVs may lead to substantial cost savings in, for instance, monitoring of difficult-to-access infrastructure, spraying fields and performing surveillance in precision agriculture, as well as in deliveries of packages. In some applications, like disaster management, transport of medical supplies, or environmental monitoring, aerial drones may even help save lives. In this article, we provide a literature survey on optimization approaches to civil applications of UAVs. Our goal is to provide a fast point of entry into the topic for interested researchers and operations planning specialists. We describe the most promising aerial drone applications and outline characteristics of aerial drones relevant to operations planning. In this review of more than 200 articles, we provide insights into widespread and emerging modeling approaches. We conclude by suggesting promising directions for future research.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the most important studies on the major components of central receiver solar thermal power plants including the heliostat field, the solar receiver and the power conversion system.
Abstract: The use of central receiver system (CRS) for electricity production promises to be one of the most viable options to replace fossil fuel power plants. Indeed, research and development activities on its basic subsystems have been booming rapidly since 1980s. This paper reviews the most important studies on the major components of central receiver solar thermal power plants including the heliostat field, the solar receiver and the power conversion system. After an overview of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technology, current status and applications of the CRSs are highlighted. Next, a detailed literature survey of existing design comprising optical, thermal and thermodynamic analysis, and techniques used to assess components have been arranged. This is followed by experimental investigations in which design concepts are established. The last section contains recent subsequent improvement of such key components as heliostat, receiver and hybrid solar gas turbine that are boosting in many R&D activities merging international collaboration during the past 30 years.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of recent work in the field of lot sizing and scheduling, focusing on capacitated, dynamic, and deterministic cases, and provide some first readings recommendations.
Abstract: This contribution summarizes recent work in the field of lot sizing and scheduling. The objective is not to give a comprehensive literature survey, but to explain differences of formal models and to provide some first readings recommendations. Our focus is on capacitated, dynamic, and deterministic cases. To underscore the importance of the research efforts, current practice is described and its shortcomings are exposed. Mathematical programming models where the planning horizon is subdivided into several discrete periods are given for both, approaches that are well-established and approaches which may represent tomorrow's state of the art. Two research directions are discussed in more detail: Continuous time models and multi-level lot sizing and scheduling. The paper concludes with some advice for future research activities.
