Abstract: In this paper, a new technique is developed to enhance the quality of JPEG compressed images. Based on the principle of learning by examples, the new method constructs the enhancement system adaptively. In order not to incur overheads, the processing system is designed to have only 7 parameters which can also be estimated off-line. Extensive simulations have been performed, results show significant improvements of both subjective and objective quality of JPEG compressed images. It is also observed that the new techniques performs competitively to state of the art techniques and is computationally more efficient.

01 Jan 2006TL;DR: This paper presents performance comparison of lossless compression technique based on wavelets with progressive transmission capacity, which is better than the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT).
Abstract: This paper presents performance comparison of lossless compression technique based on wavelets with progressive transmission capacity. Compressed images are used in various applications, where a large database has to be maintained. To store and retrieve such a large database lossless compression is essential. The performance achieved by this scheme is better than the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT). The work also consists of comparative performances of various lossless and lossy compression techniques with progressive transmission capabilities. Compression ratio of 90 to 95% is achieved by this scheme.

01 Jan 2015TL;DR: This paper proposes the method of obfuscation and integrity verification by encrypting at the least part of medical image that is stored in JPEG or JPEG2000 format.
Abstract: A digitalized medical image data has personal information such as name and phone number or medical image that contains patient’s physical characteristics, so it requires protective measure. The simplest way for meeting this demand is encrypting that, but, in recently, performance problem occurs owing to a considerable increase of data size with the development of medical imaging equipment. Thus, we need the way that provides protection function by transforming only some elements of medical image information. In this paper, we propose the method of obfuscation and integrity verification by encrypting at the least part of medical image that is stored in JPEG or JPEG2000 format.

TL;DR: This paper aims to compress satellite images in JPEG 2000 using Huffman and Run-Length Coding, which gives higher compression ratios and better resolution than JPEG.
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to compress satellite images in JPEG 2000 using Huffman and Run-Length Coding. JPEG 2000 uses wavelet transform which gives higher compression ratios and better resolution than JPEG.
