Abstract: L'A. tente de mettre en evidence la complexite des representations, jugements, et points de vue que l'on peut emettre sur le marriage arrange en Inde. Donnant un apercu des differents contextes et des differents discours sur la preference accordee au mariage arrange, dans le respect de la tradition, ou au mariage d'amour, elle examine notamment comment ces questions ont ete abordees dans la litterature indienne. Elle suggere que, meme si les relations entre generations ont change dans la societe contemporaine, la question du mariage et de la liberte de la femme demeure une question d'actualite, mais ambigue.
