Abstract: Inductive structures make highly efficient use of the magnetic flux generd, and are consistent with integrated circuit manufacturing techniques. The structures include electrically conductive layers and interconnecting conductor filled vias to define a helical winding surrounding a closed magnetic core. The magnetic core may also be formed by semiconductor manufacturing techinuqes. A method of making the structures on a semiconductor substrate concurrently with the formation of the integrated circuit itself is also disclosed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the fabrication of thin-film inductors on a substrate is described, which may include thin film resistors, thin film capacitors, and semiconductor devices, and a combination of various individual process steps from various embodiments are suitable for use to fabricate the individual layers to achieve a structure of this invention.
Abstract: The fabrication of thin film inductors on a substrate, which may include thin film resistors, thin film capacitors, and semiconductor devices. In one embodiment an inductor is fabricated initially on a substrate and then integrated with other devices subsequently formed on the substrate. In this embodiment, process steps used to fabricate such other devices utilize temperatures sufficiently low to prevent damaging or destroying the characteristics of the inductor. In another embodiment the fabrication of an inductor is achieved through photoresist masking and plating techniques. In alternative embodiments, fabrication of an inductor is achieved by sputtering, photoresist processes and etching/ion-milling techniques. A combination of various individual process steps from various embodiments are suitable for use to fabricate the individual layers to achieve a structure of this invention. The inductor fabricated in accordance with this invention is connected to other passive or active components through metal interconnections in order to improve the frequency performance of the inductor. In certain embodiments, parasitic capacitance of the inductor is significantly reduced by fabricating inductor coils on dielectric bridges. In certain embodiments, a magnetic core of ferromagnetic material is used to improve the performance of the inductor at frequencies below about 100 MHz.

Abstract: In this paper, the single layer iron powder inductor's general math model is studied and the model equations are derived. The simulations and measurements are processed to verify the model. The relations of the boost inductor impedance and DM noise spectrum are addressed in detail. Some suggestions on boost inductors are given to reduce the DM noise.

TL;DR: The design criteria adopted for the development of a prototype of a novel HV electronic combined transformer are presented and the developed combined measurement transformer features a rated primary voltage of 145/√3 kV and a ratedPrimary current of 1000 A.
Abstract: The evolution of electronic technology and digital signal processing is making competitive methods and devices for the design and the development of measurement transformers for high-voltage (HV) systems deeply different from those based on the traditional electromagnetic principle. Several advantages are offered by these new solutions: higher metrological characteristics, cost effectiveness, compact size, and lack of the typical problems of the traditional electromagnetic transformers (magnetic core saturation, magnetic resonance, bandwidth limits, etc.). In this paper, the design criteria adopted for the development of a prototype of a novel HV electronic combined transformer are presented. Its architecture permits the implementation of both voltage and current protective and measurement functions. The starting point is the employment of a mix of well-tested traditional technologies (like those used for the voltage capacitive divider and for the current sensor) and very sophisticated electronics. In particular, the electronic devices and the employed system architecture, beyond what is conceived for obtaining high measurement performances, are also oriented to provide advanced ancillary functions such as autodiagnosis, fault tolerance, autocalibration, etc. The developed combined measurement transformer features a rated primary voltage of 145/√3 kV and a rated primary current of 1000 A. Moreover, it is fully compliant with IEC 60044-7 and IEC 60044-8 standards, assuring 0.1 measurement precision class and satisfying also 5P and 3P protection classes for current and voltage sections, respectively.

TL;DR: A magnetic core-coil assembly as discussed by the authors generates an ignition event in a spark ignition internal combustion system having at least one combustion chamber, which is constructed from sub-assembly parts that can be manufactured with existing machines at reasonable cost.
Abstract: A magnetic core-coil assembly generates an ignition event in a spark ignition internal combustion system having at least one combustion chamber. The assembly comprises a magnetic core of amorphous metal having a primary coil for low voltage excitation and a secondary coil for a high voltage output to be fed to a spark plug. A high voltage is generated in the secondary coil within a short period of time following excitation thereof. The assembly senses spark ignition conditions in the combustion chamber to control the ignition event. The assembly is constructed from sub-assembly parts that can be manufactured with existing machines at reasonable cost.
