TL;DR: A magneto-motive reciprocating device has two permanent magnets rigidly mounted within a chamber so that the poles of one magnet face the pole of the other at a given distance to form an enclosed space therebetween.
Abstract: A magneto-motive reciprocating device having two permanent magnets rigidly mounted within a chamber so that the poles of one magnet face the poles of the other at a given distance to form an enclosed space therebetween. The facing poles are of opposite magnetic polarity so that a closed ring flux field is produced. A ferromagnetic piston reciprocably moves in the space between the magnets due to the action of an electro-magnetic coil surrounding the piston between the magnets. The ferromagnetic piston forms reciprocating motions under the effects of an alternating field provided by the electro-magnetic coil.

TL;DR: In this article, a device was described for switching the direction of visible and near-visible electromagnetic radiation traveling in the plane of a thin film of magnetic material. But it was based on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with patterned regions (such as a diffraction grating or a waveguiding strip) whose coercivity is different from that of the area surrounding the regions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stored energy ignition system of the capacitor discharge type is described, in which the spark plugs of the engine are fired twice during each combustion interval, one for each cylinder, and a magneto type system driven from the engine crankshaft is used to charge a pair of capacitors used in the system.
Abstract: A stored energy ignition system of the capacitor discharge type in which the spark plugs of the engine are fired twice during each combustion interval. To provide ignition of the spark plugs, one of which is provided for each cylinder, a magneto type system driven from the engine crankshaft is used to charge a pair of capacitors used in the system. Electronic triggering devices or electronic switches, such as silicon controlled rectifiers, are used to discharge each respective capacitor. The dual coils are separated one from the other magnetically, physically and electrically through insulating intermediate discs, such as for example a carbon disc. The arrangement of the coils in the single casing is such that should one of the coils fail the other will have a sufficient voltage output to fire the associated spark plug. During the normal double firing of the system, the secondary combustion occurring results in a substantial reduction of unburnt gases being passed to the atmosphere.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel approach employing a vertical quartz cantilever with an associated optical electronic readout is used to detect changes in the Maxwell stress on a thin aluminum disk in the magnetic thermal field.
Abstract: A description is given of an extremely sensitive stress gauge system designed for studying rarefied gas transport in magnetic fields. A novel approach employing a vertical quartz cantilever with an associated optical electronic readout is used to detect changes in the Maxwell stress on a thin aluminum disk in the magnetic‐thermal field. Forces acting on the detecting disk as small as 10−5 dyn can be resolved.

TL;DR: In this paper, the geometries of flows with constant speed along each individual streamline, sonic flows, and flows with isometric nets are determined, and solutions for vortex, radial, and parallel flows are obtained.
Abstract: The geometries of flows with constant speed along each individual streamline, sonic flows, and flows with isometric nets are determined. Study of two dynamically distinct flows having the same streamline pattern is made, Solutions for vortex, radial, and parallel flows are obtained. (auth)
