TL;DR: In this article, the effect of chemical radiation and heat absorption/generation of viscous fluid flow on a thermosolutal Marangoni porous boundary with mass transpiration and heat source/sink was analyzed.
Abstract: Thermosolutal Marangoni boundary layer flows are of great interest due to their applications in industrial applications such as drying of silicon wafers, thin layers of paint, glues, in heat exchangers, and crystal growth in space. The present analysis deals with the effect of chemical radiation and heat absorption/generation of the viscous fluid flow on a thermosolutal Marangoni porous boundary with mass transpiration and heat source/sink. The physical flow problem is mathematically modeled into Navier–Stokes equations. These nonlinear partial differential equations are then mapped into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. The analytical solutions for velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are rigorously derived. The solutions so obtained are analyzed through various plots to demonstrate the effect of various physical parameters such as mass transpiration parameter Vc, inverse Darcy number Da−1, Marangoni number Ma, Schmidt number Sc, chemical reaction coefficient (K), Prandtl number (Pr), thermal radiation parameter (NR), and the heat source/sink parameter (I) on the momentum/thermal boundary, and their physical insights are also reported.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of interfacial Marangoni stress generated due to imposed temperature gradient and non-uniform distribution of bulk-insoluble surfactants towards dictating the velocity and direction of motion of a viscous droplet in the presence of non-isothermal Poiseuille flow is studied analytically and numerically.
Abstract: The motion of a surfactant-laden viscous droplet in the presence of non-isothermal Poiseuille flow is studied analytically and numerically. Specifically, the focus of the present study is on the role of interfacial Marangoni stress generated due to imposed temperature gradient and non-uniform distribution of bulk-insoluble surfactants towards dictating the velocity and direction of motion of the droplet when the background flow is Poiseuille. Assuming the thermal convection and fluid inertia to be negligible, we obtain the explicit expression for steady velocity of a non-deformable spherical droplet when the droplet is located at the centerline of the imposed unbounded Poiseuille flow and encountering a linearly varying temperature field. Under these assumptions, the interfacial transport of surfactants is governed by the surface Peclet number which represents the relative strength of the advective transport of surfactant molecules over the diffusive transport. We obtain analytical solution for small and ...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a general methodology for the inclusion of a variable surface tension coefficient into a volume-of-fluid based Navier-Stokes solver, which provides a robust and accurate method for computing the surface gradients directly by finding the tangent directions on the interface using height functions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the first experimental results on Marangoni-Benard instability in a symmetrical three-layer system were presented, where the flow is driven by one interface only and obeys the criterion based on the heat diffusivity ratio proposed by Scriven & Sternling (1959) and Smith (1966).
Abstract: This paper presents the first experimental results on Marangoni–Benard instability in a symmetrical three-layer system. A pure thermocapillary phenomenon has been observed by performing the experiment in a microgravity environment where buoyancy forces can be neglected. This configuration enables the hydrodynamic stability of two identical liquid–liquid interfaces subjected to a normal gradient of temperature to be studied. The flow is driven by one interface only and obeys the criterion based on the heat diffusivity ratio proposed by Scriven & Sternling (1959) and Smith (1966). The measured critical temperature difference for the onset of convection is compared to the value obtained from two-dimensional numerical simulations. The results of the simulations are in reasonable agreement with the velocimetry and the thermal experimental data for moderate supercriticality. Numerically and experimentally, the convective pattern exhibits a transition between different convective regimes for similar temperature gradients. Their common detailed features are discussed.
