TL;DR: A new species of Maranta (Marantaceae) from the Brazilian Amazon with close affinities with M. linearis is described and illustrated.
Abstract: A new species of Maranta (Marantaceae) from the Brazilian Amazon is described and illustrated. This species belongs to Maranta subg. Maranta and has close affinities with M. linearis, from which it differs in its caulescent habit, absent petiole, pulvinus with deciduous tufts of erect trichomes on the adaxial side, very long inflorescence with many florescences, and longitudinally ridged ovary and capsule.

TL;DR: The research objective was to determine the optimal dose of irradiation in determining the LD 50 for expanding the arrowroot plant genetic diversity, and revealed that the radiation could be affect to the morphological characteristics of plants such as leaves, number of shoots, plant height and tubers production.
Abstract: Garut ( Maranta arundinaceae L.) is one crop a potential alternative source of carbohydrate that has enormous potential to be developed. Food made from arrowroot flour has the advantage that is easy to digest up to very good for health. These plants are generally propagated vegetative, so it has a narrow genetic diversity. To increase the genetic diversity of arrowroot plants, gamma ray irradiation was performed at the Center for Radiation and Isotopes, BATAN, at a dose of 10 to 140 Gy with intervals of 10. Analysis of morphological changes and the selection was done by observing the characteristic changes of the plant began generating plant shoots up to a maximum plant growth or plant produces flowers. The research objective was to determine the optimal dose of irradiation in determining the LD 50 for expanding the arrowroot plant genetic diversity. The method used was completely randomized design with 15 treatments and two replications. Based on the results revealed that the radiation could be affect to the morphological characteristics of plants such as leaves, number of shoots, plant height and tubers production. Key words : gamma ray radiation, alternative food, Garut plant (Maranta arundinaceae L).

TL;DR: In this paper, the nutritional, physical and sensory properties of high protein gluten and egg-free cookies made with resistant starch type 3 (RS3) Maranta arundinaceae flour and flaxseed as egg replacer were evaluated.
Abstract: This research was aimed to study on the nutritional, physical and sensory properties of the developed high protein gluten and egg-free cookies made with resistant starch type 3 (RS3) Maranta arundinaceae flour and flaxseed as egg replacer. The research method was done by examining the different cookies formulations based on the amount of RS3 M. arundinaceae flour. Cookies made with wheat flour was used as control. Proximate analysis, resistant starch and dietary fiber analysis were used to evaluate the nutritional properties of the developed cookies while the physical properties were evaluated based on the spread ratio and texture analysis. The outcome of this research had proved that cookies made with 10% RS3 M. arundinaceae flour was highly accepted with an overall acceptance score of 7.56±0.63 from the sensory evaluation. The cookies also had the following nutritional properties: 16.84±0.10% protein content; 18.94±0.09% dietary fiber; and 2.81±0.17% resistant starch levels along with the following physical proerties: 8.34±0.23 spread ratio and 13.67±0.22 texture. The developed cookies will be beneficial to those who are sensitive to gluten and/or eggs.
