Abstract: The mechanism of generation of unique output voltages of a low-inductance coaxial Marx generator, developed for producing relativistic electron beams or ion beams, is investigated using an equivalent circuit in which two kinds of stray capacitance are taken into account. One of these is that which exists between each Marx module and the Marx outer conductor, and the other is that which exists between the two electrodes of the spark gap. The former capacitance is found to be useful for generating rectangular-like output voltages, which the latter capacitance is found to be harmful.

Abstract: A magnetically insulated diode with a cryogenically refrigerated anode is proposed and a prototype of such a diode is constructed. H2O ice is produced on an anode which is cooled with liquid nitrogen. A small machine, consisting of a marx generator and a blumlein line, is used to extract ion beams from the diode. Proton beams of about 50 A and 70 keV are obtained with good reproducibility. Diode electrical characteristics and the extracted beam performance are also examined.

Abstract: We have theoretically analyzed the output performance of the coaxial‐type Marx generator consisting of BaTiO3 series ceramic capacitors. In this analysis, the capacitance of the BaTiO3 series ceramic capacitor has been considered to be variable with applied voltage. The results were compared with experimental results, and fairly good agreement was obtained. As a result of this analysis, it was clarified that the BaTiO3 series ceramic capacitor was not able to store efficiently the electrical energy when charged at high voltages. On the other hand, the SrTiO3 series ceramic capacitor has an almost constant capacitance against applied voltages, so that stored energy may be extracted efficiently. We have quantitatively revealed the superiority of SrTiO3 series ceramic capacitors over BaTiO3 series capacitors.

TL;DR: In this paper, a low energy Marx generator makes a convenient trigger for various spark gaps, with an output around 200 kV and a risetime less than 2 ns, the micro-Marx can multichannel field distortion gaps or fire a number of gaps without much gap-to-gap isolation.

With an output around 200 kV and a risetime less than 2 ns, the micro-Marx can multichannel field distortion gaps or fire a number of gaps without much gap-to-gap isolation. This design features small size, low cost, and good triggering characteristics. The complete unit is shown.

TL;DR: In this article, an electron beam machine consisting of six modules was constructed for the 'B' amplifier of the RAPIER KrF laser system, each module consists of a diode, a 5..cap omega.. positive charged water dielectric Blumlein pulse-forming line, and a five stage Marx generator.
Abstract: An electron beam machine consisting of six modules is being constructed for the 'B' amplifier of the RAPIER KrF laser system. Each module consists of a diode, a 5 ..cap omega.. positive charged water dielectric Blumlein pulse-forming line, and a five stage Marx generator. Separate 25 cm x 41 cm electron beams are formed in magnetically isolated diodes which when arranged in groups of three produce two nearly continuous 25 cm x 125 cm beams that enter the laser cell from opposite sides. The pulse-forming lines operate at 450 keV and produce 150 ns long pulses. The lines employ electrically triggered annular SF/sub 6/ output switches. The two concentric transmission lines of each pulse-forming line are charged in 1 ..mu..s through symmetric circuits to reduce diode prepulse voltage. The six modules together with the laser cell will occupy less than 15 m/sup 2/ of floor space.

TL;DR: EAGLE as mentioned in this paper is an experimental pulse generator designed and built at Physics International Company (PI) for research in high-power switching, pulse compression, power flow, magnetic insulation, and dielectric breakdown.
Abstract: : EAGLE is an experimental pulse generator designed and built at Physics International Company (PI) for research in high-power switching, pulse compression, power flow, magnetic insulation, and dielectric breakdown. EAGLE is a wedge-shaped 1/20th slice (module) of ROULETTE, PI's conceptual design for a 40 to 50 TW, disk-shaped, modular accelerator designed to drive imploded plasma or particle beam loads. EAGLE's nominal design goals were a 100 ns, 2 TW, 2 MV, l MA pulse into a resistive load, or a 150 to 200 ns pulse at lower power. EAGLE has a 0.9 MJ Marx generator and four water-dielectric triplate transmission lines with adjustable impedances.

Abstract: A high-energy, low-inductance, low prefire rate, low trigger jitter, high-voltage, pulsed-power supply was needed to drive the gas discharge in the Antares laser power amplifier. This report describes the design and testing of a Marx generator that meets these requirements, the development and testing of a high-capacity spark gap, and the selection of suitable capacitors and resistors.

TL;DR: A modular pulse generator for high-power switching, pulse compression, power flow, magnetic insulation, and dielectric breakdown was designed by Physics International (PI) as discussed by the authors, which is one wedge-shaped 1/20th "slice" of PI's conceptual design for a 40-50 TW, radial, tri-disk accelerator designed to drive imploded plasma or particle beam loads.
Abstract: Physics International (PI) has designed a modular pulse generator for research in high-power switching, pulse compression, power flow, magnetic insulation, and dielectric breakdown. The generator is one wedge-shaped 1/20th "slice" of PI's conceptual design for a 40-50 TW, radial, tri-disk accelerator designed to drive imploded plasma or particle beam loads. The nominal design goal of the "slice" (or module) is to produce a 100 ns, 2 TW, 2 MV, 1 MA pulse into a resistive load, or a 150 to 200 ns pulse at lower power. The module consists of an 0.8 MJ Marx generator and four water-dielectric triplates with adjustable impedances. The first is a gas-switched transfer capacitor. Next are two water-switched pulse-compression stages, and last, an output line converging to a racetrack insulator. This article describes the design and planned experiments.

Abstract: A 600 kV Marx generator has been designed with a self-inductance of 1.4 ..mu..H. Two generators in parallel form a module with a self-inductance of 700 nH. Initial operation will be with twelve 0.2 ..mu..f capacitors giving 12 kJ of stored energy and capable of a short circuit current of 125 kA. These capacitors may be exchanged for 0.43 ..mu..f units to double the stored energy and current capability. Criteria for switch operating conditions with the working gas, air, and operating pressure, < 50 psig, were achieved.

TL;DR: In this paper, an inverse reflex tetrode was used to get high voltage and high power pulsed ion beams from charge neutral proton beams with a propagation angle of about 1.5 degree.
Abstract: Characteristics of an inverse reflex tetrode were investigated to get high voltage and high power pulsed ion beams. The tetrode was fed by a coaxial blumlein line, which was charged by a marx generator. Charge neutral proton beams of 150 KeV were extracted with a propagation angle of about 1~1.5 degree. The time of flight and the energy of the beams were measured with a modified Faraday cup and a calorimeter.
