Abstract: Abstract The paper presents a compact source of soft X-ray radiation based on a fast capillary discharge developed for “water window” microscopy methods. The central part of the source is the specially designed nanosecond voltage pulse generator capable of operating at a frequency of 600 Hz, with 100 ns pulse duration and energy per pulse 5 J. The discharge is created in a borosilicate capillary non-uniformly filled with gas. The plasma emission spectra obtained for the case of source operation in argon-helium mixture demonstrate well-pronounced lines in the “carbon window” range, in carbon dioxide-lines in the “water window” range. An analysis of the emission spectra in the range of 2–9 nm in cases of different inlet gas pressures made it possible to estimate the degree of ablation of the inner wall of the capillary and to determine the suitable operating pressure range.

Abstract: An invention related to an X-ray device for the generation of brief X-ray pulses comprising an X-ray tube having a thermionic cathode and an anode and an X-ray generator having a first circuit for the generation of a high-voltage pulse which is applied to the anode for the generation of the X-ray pulse. The X-ray generator further comprising a second circuit by which a low voltage is continuously applied to the anode which pre-heats the X-ray tube and is at most sufficient for the generation of low-energy X-radiation. The first circuit can have a high-voltage power supply unit which charges a high-voltage capacitor which can be applied to the anode via a high-voltage switch. The first circuit can be a Marx generator. There may be only one power supply, which both generates the continuously low voltage and also drives the Marx generator for the generation of the high voltage. The X-ray unit can be part of an apparatus for the inspection of objects which has an imaging apparatus for the generation of an image of the object by means of the X-ray.

Abstract: This paper gives the results of studies on a plasma x-ray source, which enables one to obtain a 2.5-krad radiation dose per pulse over an area of 100 cm2in the quantum energy range from 20 to 500 keV. Pulse duration is 100 ns. Spectral radiation distributions from a diode under various operation conditions of a plasma are obtained. A Marx generator served as an initial energy source of 120 kJ with a discharge time ofT/4 = 10−6s. A short electromagnetic pulse (10−7s) was shaped using plasma erosion opening switches.

Abstract: The utility model discloses a compact GW level bipolar pulse produces device, the circuit structure of device does: the high pressure input of low resistance line connects the high voltage output end of marx generator, and the high voltage output end of low resistance line is connected to the bipolar pulse forming line of low resistance through the main switch, and the bipolar pulse forming line's of low resistance high voltage output holds the input that is connected to the matched transmission line through the sharpen switch, and the output of matched transmission line is connected to ground through the matched resistance, the bipolar pulse forming line's of low resistance high pressure input is connected to ground through the short circuiting switch, the impedance match of low resistance line, the bipolar pulse forming line of low resistance, matched transmission line, and respective low -pressure end all is connected to ground. The utility model discloses because charge time shortens, insulating medium's breakdown field strength increases, and insulation distance shortens, and bipolar pulse forming line's radial dimension can reduce, and the short circuiting switch just can reduce with the radial dimension of sharpen switch like this, guarantees the coaxial of switch and transmission line more easily, and the realization multichannel switches on.
