TL;DR: In this article, a high-speed Marx generator (HSMG) circuit is proposed to realize supply modulation (SM) in order to achieve high-modulation bandwidth, the supply modulator complexity is kept low, enabling multilevel SM with four discrete voltage levels.
Abstract: This article reports on the theory and application of a high-speed Marx generator (HSMG) circuit to realize supply modulation (SM). In order to achieve high-modulation bandwidth, the supply modulator complexity is kept low, enabling multilevel SM with four discrete voltage levels. A prototype is designed and fabricated on a four-layer FR4 board. The efficiency of the proposed modulator is measured with passive loads, achieving 89% at the 5-MHz switching frequency. Applied to a power amplifier (PA), the modulator demonstrates an error vector magnitude (EVM) of 2.64% at 10-MHz switching frequency with a four-ASK signal. Finally, the HSMG is utilized in an innovative mixerless transmitter architecture. Its capabilities are validated at the center frequency of 3.5 GHz for different modulation bandwidths from 2 up to 70 MHz and different constellation schemes—16 QAM, 32 QAM, and 64 QAM. EVM of 5.88% at 10-MHz bandwidth with 64 QAM is obtained without digital predistortion (DPD).

TL;DR: In this article , the electrical and mechanical design of a 13-stage 0.5-MV Marx generator operating at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 100 Hz was presented.
Abstract: This article presents the electrical and mechanical design of a compact 13-stage 0.5-MV Marx generator operating at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 100 Hz. The fast-switching process of the generator is based on spark gaps, operated under pressurized air and leading to the generation of an output pulsed voltage with a peak of 0.5 MV and a rise time of 15 ns when operated on a 300- $\Omega $ load. Corona-stabilized electrodes are installed near the main gap of the switches to improve their operational stability and increase the PRF. To ensure compactness, the Marx generator is housed in a cylindrical metal vessel with a height of 92 cm and an outer diameter of 34 cm, having a total volume of 74 L. A highly accurate simulation using both PSpice and CST software packages was used to predict the impulse waveform at the output of the generator and to help in optimizing the generator design. The tests show a good agreement between the experimental data and the theoretical predictions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deal with design, simulations and comparison of various bipolar Marx topologies, including six switches, five switches, four switch topologies and four switch configurations.
Abstract: This paper deals with design, simulations and comparison of various bipolar Marx topologies. Output voltage pulse specifications are 10 kV, % voltage droop − 10%, PRF − 1kHz and pulse width of 5μsec. The features of inductive charging and charging through input switch is analyzed. Bipolar Marx generator with six switches, five switches and four switch topologies are designed and simulated. These solid-state circuits are charged through a diode and switch. During the erection mode, a pulse current of kiloampere range of short duration is passing through this switch. A comparative analysis is carried out on the output pulse parameters for the Marx modulators.

TL;DR: In this paper, an indirect measurement of the electrical field in the reference electrode arrangement was used to measure the output voltage of a marx generator, with a voltage amplitude of hundreds of kilovolts and low energy.
Abstract: The article presents the construction of a system that allows to measure the output voltage of a marx generator generating nanosecond pulses with a voltage amplitude of hundreds of kilovolts and low energy. The assumption of the structure was that the measuring system influence on the generator output would be as small as possible. To achieve this goal, it was decided to use an indirect measurement, based on the measurement of the electrical field in the reference electrode arrangement, with a small capacity and inductance. The article presents the results of tests and numerical analysis of the system.
