TL;DR: In this paper, a polyethylene surface supplied cathode plasma to a pulsed electron beam source operated by a low power (PM=10.9 J) Marx generator at a low maximum voltage of 170 kV.
Abstract: Multipoint surface discharge on a polyethylene surface supplied cathode plasma to a pulsed electron beam source operated by a low-power (PM=10.9 J) Marx generator at a low maximum voltage of 170 kV. The intensity of the surface discharge on the active cathode, that is, the operating characteristics of the electron beam diode, was controlled by an external resistor. A 121A pulsed electron beam with a peak energy of 93 keV and a pulse width of about 1 µs was generated, and the stability of the diode operation was very good. A high-output electron beam power PB of 5.02 J (46% of PM) and a high electron beam diode input power PD of 9.74 J (89% of PM) were achieved. To develop a higher-efficiency electron beam source, the energy flow from the energy stored in the Marx generator to the output electron beam power in the geometry of the electron beam injection into a gas cell was clarified.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduced the concept and working principle of Marx generator and its gas switches and studied the impact of the relative position of gas switches to its synchrony, and found that ultraviolet rays or other active particles of switching spark discharge process can promote the synchronization process.
Abstract: This paper introduces the concept and working principle of Marx generator and its gas switches. According to the theoretical basis, we studied the impact of the relative position of gas switches to its synchrony. Through to the isolation of the switch, we found that ultraviolet rays or other active particles of switching spark discharge process can promote the synchronization process, and carried out 1.5mm, 2.5mm and 3.0mm gap spacing of 10 level gas switches in the air discharge experiment of synchronization.

TL;DR: In this article, a disc-type binary compact Marx generator is proposed, where a first semicircular capacitor group and a second semicirculae capacitor group form a capacitor disc, and the capacitor disc is in the shape of a ring, and a switch cavity is formed in the middle of the ring, with the central point of the switch cavity superposed with that of capacitor disc.
Abstract: The invention discloses a disc-type binary compact Marx generator. According to the disc-type binary compact Marx generator, a first semicircular capacitor group and a second semicircular capacitor group form a capacitor disc; the capacitor disc is in the shape of a ring; a switch cavity is formed in the middle of the ring, and the central point of the switch cavity is superposed with that of the capacitor disc; a spark gap switch is arranged in the switch cavity; charge inductors comprise a positive charge inductor and a negative charge inductor; the positive charge inductor and the negative charge inductor are symmetrically distributed along the diameter of the switch cavity; a load resistor is arranged in a gap between the first semicircular capacitor group and the second semicircular capacitor group; the charge inductors are electrically connected with the capacitor disc; the both ends of the spark gap switch are electrically connected with the first semicircular capacitor group and the second semicircular capacitor group respectively; one end of the load resistor is electrically connected with the output end of the capacitor disc, and the other end of the load resistor is grounded. The disc-type binary compact Marx generator realizes the advantages of flexible and convenient capacitance value selection, and compact structure.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present modelling and analysis of peaking switch used in Marx generator with the objective being reduction in the rise time of the output pulse, which can be achieved by smaller inter electrode gap spacing.
Abstract: Ultra-fast gaseous breakdown is an important phenomenon in pulsed power systems. This paper presents modelling and analysis of peaking switch used in Marx generator. The objective being reduction in the rise time of the output pulse it is essential to minimize the inductance of the spark gap channel. This can be achieved by smaller inter electrode gap spacing. Towards this FEMM (Finite Element Methods Magnetics) software is used for the field modelling of the switch and MATLAB for circuit modelling to observe the rise time.

TL;DR: In this article, a pulsed arc discharge was formed by a Marx generator for ice-breaking at ice-covered ocean, and the authors investigated the dependence of input energy required for ice breaking on circuit parameters of generator.
Abstract: In this research, investigation on breaking of ice using a pulsed power generator as a navigation of ice-breaker at ice-covered ocean, was described. In these experiments, pulsed arc discharge was formed by Marx generator. In order to investigate the dependence of input energy required for ice breaking on circuit parameters of generator, the capacitance of generator was changed. The input energy for ice-breaking was calculated from waveforms of electric power. It was found that the input energy for ice-breaking decreased as the peak power increased with decrease of the capacitance of generator.
