TL;DR: In this paper, a high voltage power supply having energy storage, charging and switching elements and using an interruptible switch as the switching element for efficient, compact and safe operation is presented.
Abstract: A high voltage power supply having energy storage, charging and switching elements and using an interruptible switch as the switching element for efficient, compact and safe operation. In a specific embodiment, the interruptible switch is implemented with at least one cold cathode grid-controlled, crossed field plasma switch and associated control circuit. The charging element is a Marx bank which can be capacitive or inductive. Embodiments with a single master-slave control arrangement, a pulse-forming network providing high voltage regulation, an inductive implementation with a plurality of switching elements in a single envelope with the cathode of at least one switching element being the anode of the next switching element are disclosed. A current amplifier and voltage regulator implemented with a cold cathode grid-controlled, crossed field plasma switch having a cathode, an anode and a control grid therebetween are disclosed.

TL;DR: The overall result is a low-impedance pulse generator that rivals the performance of traditional Marx systems with the improved reliability, increased lifetime, and fast rep-rate capabilities of solid-state switches.
Abstract: The performance of an all solid-state linear transformer driver (LTD) is evaluated based on experimentally verified behavior of a single stage. The single-stage LTD utilizes a low-profile design with robust thyristor switches and high-energy-density mica capacitors to minimize overall system inductance. Subnanosecond jitter is achieved with simultaneous thyristor triggering. The stage is magnetically coupled to a secondary winding through a central nanocrystalline core. A dc current source, decoupled with a large inductance, actively resets the core between pulses. The overall result is a low-impedance ( $ per stage) pulse generator that rivals the performance of traditional Marx systems with the improved reliability, increased lifetime, and fast rep-rate capabilities of solid-state switches. The stage is tested with charging voltages up to 8 kV into various loads and compared with simulations based on an analog behavioral thyristor switch model previously developed at Texas Tech University. The simulation is expanded into a full-scale, multistage LTD simulation and compared with a previously constructed Marx generator.

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated flue-support construction for a Marx generator consisting of several generator stages is described. But the main advantage of this construction is that it is less complicated construction measures and reduced costs, compact construction with a small flue cross-section surface, and therefore low self-inductance of the impulse wave switching circuit.
Abstract: The invention relates to an integrated flue-support construction (2) for a Marx generator (1) comprising several generator stages (3). According to the prior art, a flue (2) for purifying the air of switching spark gaps (4) is arranged separately from a support structure for the switching spark gaps (4), impulse capacitors (5) and series and parallel resistors (7, 8). According to the invention, the flue (2) adopts a supporting function for the switching spark gap (4) and individual or all electrical components (5-10) of the impulse wave switching circuit. According to one form of embodiment, the flue (2) consists of a triangular cylinder support construction (2), the side walls (11) being formed from insulating panels (11) and each receiving one of the electrical components: a switching spark gap (4), an impulse capacitor (5) and resistors (7, 8). The advantages of the invention are as follows: less complicated construction measures and reduced costs, compact construction with a small flue cross-section surface (22) and therefore, low self-inductance of the impulse wave switching circuit and a simple production process, simple transportation and simple handling due to the plug-in modules (14) for at least one generator stage, respectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a pulsed X-ray source and a diffractometer used with this source have been constructed, which can be driven at a peak voltage of 300 kV and a peak anode current of 5 kA to give X-rays with a duration of about 40 ns at a repetition rate of up to 10 Hz.
Abstract: A pulsed X-ray source and a diffractometer used with this source have been constructed. The pulsed X-ray tube can be driven at a peak voltage of 300 kV and a peak anode current of 5 kA to give X-ray pulses with a duration of about 40 ns at a repetition rate of up to 10 Hz. The high voltage is generated by a Marx generator coupled to a pulse forming line. One X-ray pulse contains about 3×106 Cu Kα photons. Some preliminary observations of the diffraction patterns from an LiF crystal have been made using a multichannel photodiode array as a detector. The use of this apparatus as a time-resolved X-ray diffractometer are discussed in this report.

TL;DR: In this paper, the setup of a short pulse simulator for susceptibility investigations is presented, which consists of a compact ultrawide-band source and a half impulse radiating antenna.
Abstract: In this paper, the setup of a short pulse simulator for susceptibility investigations is presented. This simulator consists of a compact ultrawide-band source and a half impulse radiating antenna. First measurements of the simulator are compared with calculated fields. The application of interest is the generation of an ultrashort pulse with a high electromagnetic field strength.
