Abstract: Method and apparatus for the separation of foreign bodies from a material flow, in particular a tobacco stream. Method is characterized in that at least a portion of the material from the material flow is conveyed into the area of a foreign-body detection device in the form of a partial material flow, whereby foreign bodies are identified by the foreign-body detection device in the partial material flow and subsequently removed from the partial material flow, whereby the partial material flow is formed by a separation step by an air flow upstream from the foreign-body detection device. Apparatus is characterized in that a material flow conveyor and a separation device arranged diagonal to the material flow conveyor are provided by which a partial material flow can be separated from the material flow. A foreign-body detection device is arranged after the separation device and after this, a foreign-body separation device.

Abstract: The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of supply chain complexity and suggests appropriate supply chain strategies based on material flow and contractual relationships, to align product and process complexities. The material flow strategies considered for product and process alignment are lean, agile, leagile and risk hedging. The strategies considered for the contractual relationship are types of relationship, integration and preferred channel of operation. We substantiate the link between strategies and types of complexities using a case study. The discussion of this chapter is useful to supply chain managers for leveraging product and process complexities into competitive advantage.

Abstract: The invention provides a material flow simulation optimization method in steel making-continuous casting production based on target guiding. In the method, in order to meet continuous casting of a continuous casting machine, by the guiding action of the target, material flow objects are guided for simulating, evolving and operating in a production process network; with the help of the organic integration of global and local targets, rules and information, the self-organization evolution of the simulation process under traction and constraint of other organizations is realized, thereby obtaining simulation optimization results meeting actual targets and constraint conditions; and simultaneously, models can express and reflect the random characters of the operating time of each production procedure link in the production process, and evaluate the simulation results. The method can be used for optimizing production process design in steel making-continuous casting production, assisting in optimizing production operation, realizing the analysis on the rationality of the production process, establishing production planning, and assisting production scheduling.
