TL;DR: Particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique was adopted to understand material flow and measure strain rate around the tool pin during friction stir welding (FSW) as discussed by the authors, where the micro-spherical glass tracers in a transparent visco-plastic material, of almost similar densities, were used as experimental materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, an allocation method for the cascade recycling system that considers both quality and quantity of a material used is proposed, where the quality of material as well as the material flow should be considered.
Abstract: Allocation in LCA is defined as partitioning the responsibility for environmental burdens from the economic activities to a reference flow or a reference life cycle system in some proper shares. The result of LCA study involving a multi-input/output system or an open loop recycling system is affected significantly by the choice of the allocation method. For the case of allocation in a cascade recycling system, the quality of material as well as the material flow should be considered. Therefore, environmental burdens from the primary material production, the recycling process and the waste management process have to be allocated in proportion to the quality degradation of a material and to the quantity of a material used in each life cycle system. This paper proposes an allocation method for the cascade recycling system that considers both quality and quantity of a material used.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of thread thread parameters on heat generation, temperature distribution and material flow field in friction stir welding (FSW) was analyzed based on the analysis of the interaction force between thread groove and the workpiece material.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study how companies can select a supply chain planning (SCP) mechanism to improve the balance between material flow and information flow, and suggest that specific supply chain characteristics need to be balanced by selecting a coordination mechanism that uses information optimally to support the material flow.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to study how companies can select a supply chain planning (SCP) mechanism to improve the balance between material flow and information flow.Design/methodology/approach – The methodology of the paper is an inductive case study approach. Coordination theory is used as a background for the paper. Based on a literature survey, determinants of the selection of a SCP approach are defined. Cases of SCP are used to validate the framework presented.Findings – The paper suggests that specific supply chain characteristics need to be balanced by selecting a coordination mechanism that uses information optimally to support the material flow. Flexible material flow needs frequent updates of the plan based on accurate information. If frequent information sharing and planning practices are used to support inflexible material flow, the result may be volatility in plans, and planning resources are wasted. If a flexible material flow is supported by inadequate information, waste may be...

TL;DR: In this article, a 3D finite element based mathematical model is proposed to predict the thermal gradient of CFSW considering a material flow pattern of dissimilar Al-Cu joint, and a definite heat transfer mathematical model between tool and workpiece interaction and Gaussian based cooling sources is employed in simulation.
