TL;DR: The levels of total protein of the insect was increased by xylose, while it was decreased by glucose, and the other carbohydrates tested did not cause any significant effect on total protein level of the insects.
Abstract: Effects of 22 carbohydrates belonging to various groups on the levels of total glycogen and protein in the adult female Pimpla turionellae L. were investigated. Sucrose was used as control in all experiments. Among the tested carbohydrates, xylose, ribose, rhamnose, mannose, maltose, cellobiose, melesitose, raffinose, glycogen, dulcitol and mannitol caused significant decreases on total glycogen level, but arabinose, fructose, galactose, glucose, sorbose, lactose, melibiose, trehalose, starch, sorbitol and a-methyl-d-glucoside did not any significant effect. The levels of total protein of the insect was increased by xylose, while it was decreased by glucose. The other carbohydrates tested did not cause any significant effect on total protein level of the insects.

TL;DR: In this article, the compositions of free sugars in soybean seeds and soybean oligosaccharide syrup were investigated through high performance liquid chromatography and enzymatic hydrolysis with β-galactosidase.
Abstract: The compositions of free sugars in soybean seeds and soybean oligosaccharide syrup were investigated through high performance liquid chromatography and enzymatic hydrolysis with β-galactosidase. A Sugar-D column was used with aceto-nitrile-water solution (75:25, V/V) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 ml/min, and a refractive index detector was used for the detection of sugars. Under such conditions, it ensured good separation for the sugars with stable baseline. The relative standard deviations and recovery rates were between 1.0% to 2.0% and 96.7% to 106.7%, respectively, for fructose, sucrose, melibiose, raffinose, and stachyose. Through the analysis, we found that both soybean seed and soybean oligosaccharide syrup contained fructose, sucrose, melibiose, raffinose, stachyose, and two unknown substances, while the latter also contained glucose (galactose) and another unknown compound which was inferred as manninotriose based on the result of α-galactosidase degradation. The growth activator of bifidobacterial in soybean oligosaccharide syrup was mainly manninotriose and stachyose.

TL;DR: A melibiose-binding protein was isolated from human spleen by serial affinity chromatography on lactose-, mannose-, and melibioses-Sepharose and the data suggest that the major protein isolated is an anti-Galαl → 6 immunoglobulin.
Abstract: A melibiose-binding protein was isolated from human spleen by serial affinity chromatography on lactose-, mannose-, and melibiose-Sepharose. The purified protein agglutinated rabbit erythrocytes and re-bound to melibiose, but did not bind to murine nor human laminin. The protein was composed of approximately 58 kDa and 26 kDa polypeptides. The polypeptides were detected in buffy coat cell extracts and they were synthesized in vitro by B lymphoblastoid cells. The polypeptides did not react with anti-galaptin, anti-C-reactive protein, anti-amyloid P, anti-keratin, and anti-rat lung lectin 29 sera. The 58 kDa polypeptide reacted very weakly with anti-core-specific lectin serum and reacted with anti-IgG serum. The data suggest that the major protein isolated is an anti-Ga1 alpha 1-->6 immunoglobulin.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of the mechanism of radiation-induced reactions with cellulose, the radiation chemistry of a number of simple crystalline sugars and polysaccharides was investigated.
Abstract: In a study of the mechanism of radiation-induced reactions with cellulose, the radiation chemistry of a number of simple crystalline sugars and polysaccharides was investigated. All solid sugars were irradiated in both air and vacuum to total doses of 10/sup 7/ and 10/sup 8/ rad in a Co/sup 60/ source at 1.25 megarad/hr. Examination of the gaseous products showed that irradiated cellobiose yields a relatively high hydrogen content, while amylose and amylopectin (amorphous) at doses of 10/sup 8/ rads show the presence of no water vapor. The same gases were also reported to result from the irradiation of crystalline glucose. In the solid state, the majority of the saccharides showed marked color changes following irradiation. The se colors, which were unchanged after 2 yr, varied from bright yellow with amylose, amylopectin, and glucose to dark brown with sucrose. Melibiose, lyxose, and fucose showed no change. Aqueous solutions of the irradiated materials were distinctly acid (pH 3-5). Paper chromatographic examination of the aqueous carbohydrate solutions showed no differences for the carbohydrates irradiated in air or vacuum. In marked contrast to the monosaccharides, the radiation stability of disaccharides was relatively poor. Each of the disaccharides tested yielded a large number of degradationmore » products of which the component monosaccharides predominated. With the irradiated polysaccharides (amylose, amylopectin, and cellulose) characteristic chromatographic behavior in all solvents was a trail of reducing material often running to the end of the sheet. In the chromatography of all three compounds, only a faint spot corresponding to glucose was observed. Data are tabulated for the gas yields (H/sub 2/, CH/sub 4/, H/sub 2/O, CO, CO/sub 2/) and Rf values of the products from the irradiation of amylose, amylopectin, cellulose, trehalose, cellobiose, maltose, sucrose, lactose, and melibiose.
