TL;DR: This paper describes how metadata from hyperlinks is exploited to drive a web information gathering system, which forms the backend of a topic-specific search engine.
Abstract: As the World-Wide-Web grows at an exponential rate, we are faced with the issue of rating pages in terms of quality and trust. In this siutation, with significant linkage among web pages, what other pages say about a web page can be as important as and more objective than what the page says about itself. The cumulative knowledge of such recommendations (or lack of them) can help a system to decide whether to pursue a page or not. This metadata information can also be used by a web robot program, for example, to derive summary information about web documents written in a foreign language. In this paper, we describe how we exploit this type of metadata to drive a web information gathering system, which forms the backend of a topic-specific search engine. The system uses metadata from hyperlinks to guide itself to crawl the web staying focused on a target topic. The crawler follows links that point to information related to the topic and avoids following links to irrelevant pages. Moreover, the system uses the metadata to improve its definition of the target topic through association mining. Ultimately, the guided crawling system builds a rich repository of metadata information, which is used to serve the search engine.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a framework for executing a service provided by a second framework by initiating, by the first framework, a request to access the services provided by the second framework, and also identifying metadata for the service, the metadata being stored in a metamodel runtime repository.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for executing, by a first framework, a service provided by a second framework. The method may include initiating, by the first framework, a request to access the service provided by the second framework. The method may also include identifying metadata for the service, the metadata being stored in a metamodel runtime repository. The method may further include translating the metadata into a format that the first framework can use to invoke the service and executing, using the translated metadata, the service provided by the second framework.

TL;DR: To deal with the mismanagement of metadata in ETL processes, the paper suggests intensively manage ETL by metadata repository, which can show DBA the metadata in a direct, simple, and centred way, and makes metadata more easy to understand.
Abstract: ETL plays a significant role in DW construction. Basically, ETL management is rooted in metadata management of the ETL processes. A metadata management system with good design can highly improve the ETL efficiency. However, the large amount and the wide distribution of metadata in ETL processes cause the mismanagement of metadata, which hasn't got a good solution yet. To deal with this problem, the paper suggests intensively manage ETL by metadata repository. Metadata repository can show DBA the metadata in a direct, simple, and centred way, and makes metadata more easy to understand, therefore metadata management becomes more direct, simple, and centred. Compared with the common one, ETL processes based on metadata repository have a much better optimization effect.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cloud storage system identifies and creates metadata associated with a stored file and provides the filtered metadata to the application by identifying an application associated with the metadata access request.
Abstract: A cloud storage system identifies and creates metadata associated with a stored file. On receiving a request to access the file with an application, the cloud storage system generates a metadata category associated only with the application, and creates metadata associated with the generated metadata category and corresponding to the file. On receiving a request to access file metadata, the cloud storage system identifies an application associated with the metadata access request, identifies a set of metadata categories associated with the identified application, filters metadata associated with the file based on the identified set of metadata categories, and provides the filtered metadata to the application.

TL;DR: This preconference provided an overview of newer metadata formats, as well as current trends in the field, and encouraged librarians to engage with their information technology partners to ensure optimal use and development of digital libraries.
Abstract: Digital versions of the library are proliferating as information becomes ever more electronic. Traditional methods of library cataloging are inadequate to fully describe digital objects in this new dynamic environment. Thus, new standards of metadata are being devised to provide access for objects in digital libraries. These new standards extend beyond mere description; there is also a need to include other metadata functions that provide administrative, access, preservation, and structural information. This preconference provided an overview of newer metadata formats, as well as current trends in the field, and encouraged librarians to engage with their information technology partners to ensure optimal use and development of digital libraries.
